GYÖR IS YUSUF DIKEC’S FAVOURITE RANGE MEDAL AND CELINE GOBERVILLE HANDLED THE PRESSURE BEST

In the Air Pistol Men Turkish Yusuf Dikec made the same thing than two years ago here in Györ. He won the European Championship.

There is an anecdote: who rushes a lot in the beginning will be tiered before finish line. It means that if you use all your power and strength, you do not have a power and strength enough when you need it during the critical steps before the finish line.

I don’t know does it suit well to shooting but some way it described the situation in the 10m Air Pistol Men Final. The athletes who received the place to the finals were following: Artem Chernousov (RUS) 584, Joao Costa (POR) 584, Yusuf Dikec (TUR) 583, Samuil Donkov (BUL) 582,

Anton Gourianov (RUS) 581, Oleh Omelchuk (UKR) 580, Giuseppe Giordano (ITA)579, and Pablo Carrera (ESP) 579.

Young Artem Chernousov made his despite in the Seniors competition level. In Juniors he had a lot of success and he who surely thirsty and eager to show his skills to more experienced athletes. He led with Anton Gourianov the first half of the final. But then after 18th shot ”the Turkish Tiger” Yusuf Dikec.

Step forward with excellent hits (10.8, 10.6, 10.3, 10.8). The game was over and he kept Chernousov and Joao ”King” Costa behind him. Last time when Dikec had won European Championship happened two years ago just here in Györ. Györ looks to be Dikec’s favorite range.

Artem Chernousov won silver and competed hard from the gold. The Match was over during the second last shots when Chernousov had his weak moment in those two shots 9.8, 9.9. Anyway we will read from the debutant Chernousov soon, Im sure. He was quite familiar among the older athletes. The Gold medal result was 241.6 which is Equal European record. Chernousov’s silver result was 239.8 and Costa’s bronze needed 218.8 results.

CELINE GOBERVILLE HANDLED THE PRESSURE BEST

The last individual competitions were competed in Györ on Saturday. In turn there were 10m Air Pistol for Women and Men. Also Running Target juniors finished their ”job” today.

The first pistol event was 10m Air Pistol Women, in which 73 athletes participated. The familiar names ruled the Qualification: The best of Qualification was Ukrainian Olena Kostevych (583). Serbian Zorana Arunovic was second – two points behind Kostevych (581). Third was multi winner and medalist Anna Korakaki (579) from Greece. Russian Vitalina Batsarashkina (576), French Celine Goberville (573), Belarusian Viktoria Chaika (572), Serbian Bobana Momcilovic Velickovic (572) were also achieved the place for finals. The last finals place took experienced Maria Grozdeva (571) who had most of inner ten among five other athletes. Grozdeva shot 17 inner tens, one more than Russian Margarita Lomova.

When looking at the finals starting list it seemed to come very interesting final. And so it was. Serbian Momcilovic started strongly 50.3 and she took the lead after the first 5 shots. French Celine Goberville answered for Momcilovic and took now the the lead after 10 shots by shooting ”good tens” and in to the 11th shot was 10.8. Behind Goberville Serbians had taken the next two places. Goberville continue her strong shooting and she was on the top after 15th shots. Then she had 9.5 and 9.8 hits and then used Momcilovic her possibility by shooting 10.9 and 10.6 and she took the lead only with 0.2 difference before Arunovic. Goberville drop to third place but she was only 0.5 behind leader.

During the next shots (19th shot) Goberville was still leading with 0.5 advance to Arunovic. Then it was Arunovic turn to attack and go to top place. The difference of Arunovic was now only 0.2 after 20th shot. Arunovic shot 10.1 and 10.6.

Shot number 21: Arunovic hits 9.2 and Goberville 9.4. Next shot brings to both excellent 10.7 – situation still equal. Two shot left! What do they do? Goberville hits 10.4 and Arunovic 9.2 and when the last shot gives result 8.9 and Arunovic shoots 9.7 we saw a new European Champion – Celine Goberville from France.

Behind the main drama Bobana Momcilovic takes the bronze. Goberville’s gold result was 240.2 and silver result 239.8. The bronze medal was won by the result of 219.0.

“The final included deep pressure and it was very tight. I could handle anyway the pressure well and it was a good final for me. Feelings are incredible now and I was nearly to lose my faith but some way I collected my emotions and stayed cal. That was ever so hard final”, sighed the new European Champion Celine Goberville.

Two new European Champions, Wladimir Maslennikov from Russia with a new recors, and Stine Nielsen from Denmark

VLADIMIR MASLENNIKOV: GOLD AGAIN WITH NEW WORLD AND EUROPEAN RECORD!

We must admit that there is something magic in the air when Russian Vladimir Maslennikov shoots.

Calm and sharp without any extra tricks. When he got his machine warm he was superior, his advance was already 3.2 points. His start was not perfect and Norwegian Henrik Larsen took first the lead after 5 first shots. After next five shots Croatian Petar Gorsa lead but only with 0.1 point.

The rest we can say was history; We can nearly say that Maslennikov did what he wanted and the other did what was able to do. When the second Competition Stage (elimination shots) started he did not give any possibilities to pass him. He shot even two times 10.9.

When there was still one shot to go the announcer told to audience that Maslennikov has now a great possibility to make a new world record (set by his teammate Sergey Kamenskiy 250.9). And what he did, he shot 9.6 – and made a new record with the difference of 0.1. The finish was like a dot over the “i”. Maslennikov renewed his last year (Maribor 2017) European

Danish Stine Nielsen is the new European Championship in 10m Air Rifle

Stine Nielsen is an excellent and experienced athlete. She had won one WC Competition, been on podium but still, this was her first European Championship. Last year she was in Maribor second.

Stine Nielsen made excellent work during the whole final, she was not so superior as Maslennikov in men’s competition but her shooting was very assured. Nielsen could find somewhere a turbo when it was needed and let not others results to disturb herself.

“Of course it is nervous to shoot in a final and under a hard pressure, but that is why you are training. Of course, I’m very happy. The dream came true”, explained new European Champion.

If this was an emotion moment for Nielsen, it was also for Katarzyna Komorowska (POL) and Manon Smeets from Nederland. Komorowska (248.7) shot finally silver only 0.4 behind Nielsen and Smeets was on the bronze podium. These podium places were their first podium places in her international careers.

No shooting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

no photo

Commonwealth games federation CEO David Grevemberg has crushed the hopes of ISSF and NRAI by clarifying that shooting will not feature in the 2022 CWG games. The big blow to aspiring Indian shooters came after commonwealth nations collectively decided against it as Grevemberg claimed.
The Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), as well a Union sports minister and Olympic silver medalist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, have all been sweating hard to include shooting as a sport in the Commonwealth Games. However, it doesn’t seem to happen in the upcoming 2022 edition that is held in Birmingham, after Grevemberg issued a statement recently where he clarified it by stating that the sport of shooting was merely ‘optional’.
“Shooting will not feature at the 2022 CWG and the CGF has awarded the Games supporting these plans,” Grevemberg wrote in a letter to the Commonwealth Games Association.
Grevemberg stressed that the decision to exclude the sport was not his alone and the “entire commonwealth of nations” stood by it. The Birmingham games’ organizing committee has chosen the sports of table tennis, judo, gymnastics, wrestling, cycling, diving and 3-v-3 basketball as the selected seven optional sports to feature as part of the 2022 games.
“Birmingham is a diverse and dynamic city that has proposed an inspiring and inclusive event for 2022, and in record time. We know that they considered all optional sports carefully, but a final decision was reached,” added Grevemberg in his letter.
Shooting has been a sport in which India have always enjoyed success, with the likes of sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Abhinav Bindra, and Gagan Narang amongst others claiming medals. Grevemberg was not oblivious of it and understood the disappointment. He even sympathized with India, without specifying the country’s name, by highlighting in the letter, “a particular country has enjoyed medal success in this sport historically”.

FIRST WORLD AND EUROPEAN RECORD IN GYÖR

Junior Women started their job in 10m Air Rifle in Györ and the result of the Qualification was not more or less than Qualification World and European record.

The record breaker was Serbian Marija Malic whose result was 625.7. Excellent start for her! The qualification was very strict while Malic won the qualification only with 0.1 point before Russian Daria Boldinova 625.6. Third was Danish Stephanie Grundsoee (625.4). Russian Federation managed to get three athletes into the finals while Tatiana Kharkova was fourth and Anastasiia Dereviagina sixth. German Anna Janssen, Jeanette Duestad and Italian Sofia Benetti were the rest athletes who managed to have the finals places.

Anna Janssen ruled her nerves best

The final of the 10m Air Pistol Women Junior was as excellent show as the YOG competition on Sunday. The young athletes made marvelous hits and I can say that it was one of the most amusing finals I ever saw.

In the beginning of the final German Anna Janssen was leading after 15 shots. Then it looked that the final will be the duel of Russian Dereviagina and Kharkova, but then Anna Janssen rushed back to lead by shooting 10.6 and 10.9. The rest was history and Anna Janssen was finally crowned as the European Champion with new European record (250.3). Dereviagina couldn’t push Janssen from even she shot also well (10.7, 10.6, 10.9 etc) while among the excellent shot belonged also one 9.9 and that hit was too much.

“When the final started I was very nervous and I was not at all sure what will happen but finally I handled my nerves quite well. I was not satisfied for my qualification shooting and it made me nervous to the finals. My technique was not good. I returned back to my usual rhythm at the finals”, explained the new European record holder and champion her competition. “I have been competed already in many international competitions and also in finals, so this was not so unusual but still I was very nervous”.

Sixteen years old Anna Janssen is aiming to World Championships and to the Olympics, perhaps we see her on the podium in 2024 Olympics.

The new European record is now 250.3 made by German Anna Janssen, the silver medalist is Anastasiia Dereviagina (249.2) from Russian Federation and bronze medal travels to Serbia with Marija Malic (226.8) who arouse finally on the podium after excellent shooting and battle against Russian Tatiana Kharkova.

In the Air Rifle Youth Competition for Men and Women, Maximillian from Germany and Anastasiia from Russia, both won the gold medal

MAXIMILLIAN MADE MAXIMUM

Sunday’s second competition and final was the 10m Air Rifle Men Youth. It was an excellent shooting show from young athletes. It looked quite long time that the winner would be the Russian Grigorii Shamakov but in the last competition shot German Maximillian Ulbrich made an excellent 10.4 hit when Shamakov managed to hit only 9.8. It meant that they both had the same result 247.1, and the shoot-off was a reality.

«The qualification was very difficult and it was very hard to arise again after some bad hits, but the main thing was that I could reach the final place. At finals my start was terrible and I was ever so nervous. Then I started to get better hits. It was really exciting final. Fortunately I made into the end some good hits so we reached equal results with Grigorii. At shoot off I was very nervous but I think that so was Grigorii too. I was probably less nervous and lucky one», explained Maximillian Ulbrich who is not sure shall he travel to Buenos Aires while in Germany they have still separate qualifications.

The three quota winner nations were Germany (Maximillian Ulbrich), Bulgaria (Plamen Emilov - 4th) and Armenia (Hayk Babayan - 5th). Russian Federation had won quota earlier.

Rookie Gloria Fernandez won Women Youth Gold and Quota to Buenos Aires

Györ woke up a little bit misty, landscape has changed his color to white. It had snowed a little bit during the night, temperature – 3 C only. Traffic on the street was surprisingly active. Audi Aréna woke up quickly when athletes and coaches rushed to their rooms and range.
The first competition was 10m Air Pistol Women Youth with 53 participants. Their goal was to win one quota of three quota place to Buenos Aires Argentina for the Youth Olympic Games.

After the qualification eight best athletes reached the place to the finals. Best in qualification was Italian Giulia Campostrini with the result of 381. Only one point (380) lost Russian Iana Enina. Third finalist was Vanessa Seeger two points (378) behind Enina. Slovenian Anja Prezelj was fourth with the same result (377) with Spanish Gloria Fernandez. The three last finalists were Romanian Daria-Olimpia Haristiade with two Georgians: Nino Khutsiberidze and Lizi Kiladze. These three athletes shot the same 374 result.

In the finals young Spanish athlete managed much better. She was all the time among the four best – mainly among the two best behind Russian Iana Enina. When sixteen shots had been done Fernandez moved to lead with the difference of 0.2 points by shooting 10.7 – 10.0 – 10.4. Those hits led her to the triumph while Enina could not defend her lead. Enina’s shots were 9.9 and two times 9.4. Fernandez took the top place and she kept that place to the end.

"This was my first time at the international competition and also my first final that’s why it was so exciting. I have trained shooting now for four years and the future plans are a little bit unclear still. Of course, I will compete still here in this championship and let’s see what will happen. I was and I’m still very excited and it is a little bit difficult to understand this entire", explained gold winner after the awarding ceremony.
