Time Table for Qualifying and Elimination Rounds of Rifle and

 Pistol Events. 

 Time comparison between the 2009 and 2013 Rules

This table was set up with the purpose to compare the shooting times changes in the rifle and pistol events introduced in the new rules (2013) and compare it with the old rules (2009).

The reduction in the shooting times of the events occurred for two main reasons:

- The match time is now exclusively for competition shots, the sighting shots, before, in the old rules, was included in the match time,  now it’s part of the preparation time, as an pre event procedure. We may consider that the average time reduced from the match time is something around 10min, which is less than 30/25 minutes of the real reduction time of the events.

- That gives us the second reason of the reducing time; it will make the events more competitive and will increase the challenge among the athletes.

Looking the old table, we can see that 5 events have their shooting times printed in blue color, that’s to show those five events didn’t have any difference on the shooting time despite of using paper target or electronic target; all the others had a considerable difference when using different targets or system (15 to 25 min).

On the new rules, three of them had their mach time split in two match times like the others, but there is still two of them (10m Air Rifle, men and women) without any changes.

IWK IN MUNICH: A FIRST LOOK TO THE NEW ISSF RULES FOR THE FINALS

International Air Gun shooters competed with the new ISSF rules for the finals at the IWK staged on the lines of the 1972 Olympic Shooting Range of Munich.

The 1972 Olympic Shooting Range of Munich turned once again into a stage of innovation. There, the ISSF World Cup Series, the ISSF World Cup Finals, and the same final stages were launched in the past. And there, this time, the new ISSF Rules for the finals, where applied during the 2013 IWK, the traditional International Air Gun Competition staged in Munich, Germany, from the 23 to the 27 of January.   

The rules for the finals, which are in force from the 1^st of January 2013, had a chance to be tested by a number of international shooters, coming from all over the world.

Air Rifle and Air Pistol shooters, both in the junior and in the open categories, competed in the finals using the new format, which was developed to appeal spectators and sport fans.

The new finals are starting from zero: no scores are carried from the qualifications. Shooters have now twenty final shots, instead of ten. But that’s not all: the matches follow now an elimination system. After a given number of shots, the athlete with the lower score leaves the shooting line. One after the other, all shooters are eliminated. When only two are left on the line, it’s time for a duel to assign the Gold medal.

“This has been one of the first chances to see the new rules applied to an international competition. The results, and the comments we received here, are absolutely promising;” The ISSF Vice-President Gary Anderson said in Munich, after the competition.

“We have been following this international competition here in Munich, which was one of the first international matches where the new final rules were used to conduct the matches. This is the first step into the new season, and we are looking forward for some excellent competitions during our ISSF World Cup Series.”  The ISSF Secretary General, Franz Schreiber said at the event.

The 2013 ISSF World Cup Series, featuring the new Final rules and the new Qualification rules (decimals will be taken into account) will kick off this spring, with the first Rifle & Pistol World Cup stage taking place in Changwon, Korea, from the 2 to the 10 of April.
