ISSF World Championship Shotgun in Lima, Peru

On September 14 starts the Shotgun World Championship with the participation of 55 countries, with 381 registered athletes who will be competing for the best positions and the 15 medals that will be distributed to the best shooters of the event.
Lima, Peru will host the World Championship, an interesting place with many tourist attractions.

            

Lima is the capital and the largest and most important city of Peru2. Located on the central coast of the country, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, where it forms a continuous urban area known as the Lima Metropolitan Area, which extends over the river valleys Chillon, Rimac and Lurin, in the provinces of Lima, headquarters, and of Callao. Founded on January 18, 1535, as the City of Kings, became the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru during the Spanish regime and after the country's independence, became the capital of Peru.

OMEGA’s Countdown Clock Tells The Story Of Nanjing 2014

Thousands of Nanjing citizens cheered as the impressive OMEGA Countdown Clock in Xinjiekou Square was unveiled today marking exactly one year to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

The special countdown event, which was organised by the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (NYOCOG) in collaboration with Omega, began at 7.30pmon August 15 when master of ceremonies introduced OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart, Gerhard Heiberg from the International Olympic Committee and the City of Nanjing’s mayors, Ji Jianye who is also the Vice President of NYOGOC.

NANJINGLELE, the official mascot of the Youth Olympic Games, took to the stage and received a warm welcome from the spectators.

The spectators were also treated to a dazzling, choreographed performance featuring local youth using brightly-coloured illuminated umbrellas and accompanied by Chinese drummers. Their appearance was followed by a film made up of historic Olympic footage and scenery from Nanjing along with images highlighting OMEGA’s long-standing timekeeping role.

The main attraction featured a breathtaking routine executed by silk aerialists and water silk dancers. They concluded their show by dramatically unveiling the Countdown Clock to tumultuous applause and cheers.

Just before 8pm, enthusiastic spectators started counting down the final ten seconds to the one year milestone. They reached “zero” exactly as the number of days remaining changed from 366 to 365.

OMEGA president Stephen Urquhart said that his brand is looking forward to its timekeeping role in Nanjing. “All of us were so impressed by the talent on display in Singapore at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games,” he said. “The fact that some of the athletes there have already gone on to win Olympic medals speaks volumes about their ability. In Nanjing, the spectators will have the chance to see that the future of international sport is very promising indeed.”

In addition to the six-metre high Countdown Clock in Xinjiekou Square, OMEGA has installed a four-metre version at the entrance to the NYOGOC office.

OMEGA first served as Official Olympic Timekeeper at the Los Angeles 1932 Olympic Games and has also provided its timekeeping and data handling services to the Youth Olympic Games since their inception in Singapore in 2010.

C.      Athlete Eligibility

ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY

All athletes must comply with the provisions of the Olympic Charter currently in force, and only those athletes who comply with the Olympic Charter may participate in the Youth Olympic Games. Athletes who are born between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 1999 are eligible to participate in the shooting events of the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games. Only eligible athletes can obtain Minimum Qualification Scores (MQS) results or quota places. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION SCORES (MQS) All athletes, including candidates for NOC Universality Places, must obtain a YOG MQS to be entered by their NOC in the shooting events of the Youth Olympic Games. MQS must be obtained in ISSF Championships or in ISSF designated competitions approved by the ISSF Executive Committee. MQS scores must be obtained between 1 April 2013 and 8 June 2014. YOG MQS for shooting are (for 10m Air Rifle YOG MQS are listed in decimal scoring as well):          10m Air Rifle (AR) – 60 shots 552 / 580.0 10m Air Rifle (AR) – 40 shots 368 / 385.0          10m Air Pistol (AP) – 60 shots 540 10m Air Pistol (AP) – 40 shots 355 GENERAL RULES FOR QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS YOG quota places must be earned in designated qualifying competitions that will take place between 1 April 2013 and 8 June 2014. Those competitions must consist of a qualification and a final round. The appropriate ISSF Technical Rules must apply. The maximum number of entries per ISSF National Federation at any event of a qualifying competition is three (3) participants per event.

D.      Qualification System

QUALIFICATION PATHWAY

For each qualifying event, the qualification places obtained for the Youth Olympic Games will be allocated to:    (   )Athletes  ( X )NOCs A total of 80 quota places in total will be distributed according to the following qualification procedure: One quota place is one starting position for the Youth Olympic Games. Each eligible athlete who obtains one of the following IF quotas in a Continental Qualifying Competition event obtains one starting position for his or her NOC in the Youth Olympic Games. YOG Shooting Quotas will be distributed by event, according to the following distribution plan: AR 40 Ap 40 AR 60 AP60 TOTAL Host Country 1 - - 1 2 Africa 1 1 1 1 4 America 2 2 2 2 8 Asia 3 4 4 3 14 Europe 6 6 6 6 24 Oceania 1 1 1 1 4 Universaliti Places 6 6 6 6 24 Total 20 20 20 20 80 Eligible athletes (one quota place only per athlete) can obtain qualification places in each of the four (4) events in Continental Qualifying Competitions that are organised between 1 April 2013 and 8 June 2014. Continental Qualifying Competitions must have YOG qualifying events where all participating athletes are born in 1996, 1997, 1998 or 1999 (YOG Shooting Youth Category). Qualifying Competitions may take place during Continental Championships or in other specially designated competitions as proposed by the Continental Confederation and approved by the ISSF Executive Committee. IF quotas will be awarded according to the final ranking in each qualifying event in a Continental Qualifying Competition. A qualification place can be obtained only if the athlete’s qualification score is equal to or higher than the MQS.

HOST COUNTRY REPRESENTATION

The host country will be directly qualified in two (2) events as follows, provided its selected athletes have obtained a YOG MQS: One (1) Quota Place in 10m Air Rifle Women One (1) Quota Place in 10m Air Pistol Men

UNIVERSALITY PLACES

To be eligible to receive Universality Places, athletes must comply with the eligibility criteria as defined under point C. of this document. 24 places will be allocated, pending that the technical level allows it.

E.       Confirmation process for quota places

REALLOCATION OF UNUSED QUALIFICATION PLACES

The ISSF will reallocate all remaining or returned unused qualification places by filling them with the next highest ranked eligible athletes from other NOCs in that event in the same Continental Qualifying Competition. If no redistribution is possible within the continent, the qualification place(s) will be reallocated to the NOC(s) with the largest number of MQS athletes which has/have not yet qualified for a quota place for the Nanjing YOG 2014.

F. Reallocation of unused quota places

REALLOCATION OF UNUSED HOST COUNTRY PLACES

The ISSF will reallocate all remaining or returned unused qualification places by filling them with the next highest ranked eligible athletes from other NOCs in that event in the same Continental Qualifying Competition. If no redistribution is possible within the continent, the qualification place(s) will be reallocated to the NOC(s) with the largest number of MQS athletes which has/have not yet qualified for a quota place for the Nanjing YOG 2014.

Any unused Universality Places, including those returned after the final allocation by YOG Tripartite Commission, will be reallocated to the NOC(s) with the largest number of MQS athletes which has/have not yet qualified for a quota place for the Nanjing YOG 2014.
