UAE's flag bearer won three shoot-offs on his way to the highest step of the podium, beating Sweden's Marcus Svensson in the gold medal match.

Saif Bin Futtais of the United Arab Emirates (41) won today's Skeet Men final on day 2 of the 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Larnaca, Cyprus.

The 41-year old shooter beat Sweden's Marcus Svensson 4 to 3 hits in a shoot-off for Gold as the two tied with 14 targets at the end of the gold medal match.

Bin Futtais actually shot his way to the podium passing through three different shoot-offs. First he qualified for the final with 122+2 hits, making it through a four-way tie-breaker. After hitting 15 targets in the semi-final, he walked into the gold medal match by winning a shoot-off against Great Britain's first-time finalist Jeremy Harry Bird (25) with a score of 2 to 1 hits. Finally, after scoring 14 targets in the medal match, the last shoot-off against Svensson gave him the brightest medal and an Olympic quota place.

“The highlight of the day is the Rio 2016 Olympic quota place. This is very important both for me and for my country.” The winner said. “Then it comes the world cup Gold, which is a nice achievement.”

“Everybody is working really hard to secure a qualification spot for Rio, and I have been training a lot to finish atop of today's podium. I am not guaranteed a spot in the Olympic team, as we have a national selection, but at least we have a quota now.”

“The competition has been tough. When I made it into the Gold medal match, I was guaranteed a quota place. In that moment I relaxed and shot at my best.” Continued Bin Futtais. “I have to admit that I have been a bit lucky in the shoot-offs, going through the match, but that's part of the game.”

The 2007 and 2009 ISSF world championship junior silver medallist Marcus Svensson of Sweden (25) pocketed the Silver medal and the second Rio 2016 quota place up for grabs at today's final.

The young athlete qualified with 123 hits, and then cleared the semi-final with a perfect score of 16 hits. But missing two targets in the gold medal match and then a clay in his second shoot-off double placed him on the second step of the podium.

Anton Astakhov of the Russian Federation (27), participating in his first ISSF world cup final round today, secured the Bronze medal beating Great Britain's Jeremy Harry Bird (25) by 13 to 12 hits in the Bronze medal match as the British shooter missed his very last target.

Today's final turned into a disappointing match for Cyprus' medal hope Georgios Achilleos (34), who placed in fifth missing the Rio 2016 qualification spot that he has been chasing since last year's ISSF World Championship.

Achilleos shot a marvellous competition, and qualified for the final with a perfect score of 125 hits out of 125 targets, equalling the world record established by Italy's Valerio Luchini at last year's ISSF world cup in Beijing (CHN). After hitting all the targets throughout the two-day competition, he missed two crucial clays during the semi-final - on station four and five – ending up with a score of 14 hits. That landed him into a shoot-off against Astakhov, who won the tie-breaker with 6 hits to Achilleos' 5, leaving the Cypriot athlete in fifth place.

The 2013 ISSF World Champion Jesper Hansen of Denmark (34), who had won a world cup's Silver in Al Ain last March, followed Achilleos placing in sixth with a semi-final score of 13 hits.

The 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Larnaca, Cyprus, will continue tomorrow with the Double Trap Men's pre-event training. The next medal match, the men's double trap final, will take place the day after tomorrow, on the 29th of April, at 16.30 (Cyprus time, EEST). The final will be broadcasted live on www.issf-sports.org

Bacosi wins her second skeet world cup Gold of the season at Larnaca's opening event

The Skeet Women event opened the 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Larnaca. Italy's Diana Bacosi won her second world cup Gold in a row, leaving China's Yu in second place.

Italy's Diana Bacosi won today's Skeet Women final, the opening event of the third ISSF Shotgun World Cup stage of the season held in Larnaca, Cyprus.

The 31-year old Italian shooter qualified for the final match with 72 hits, and then cleared the semi-final with a perfect score of 16 hits out of 16 targets.

Advancing to the Gold medal match, Bacosi met and beat Chian's Yu Xiumin with a score of 15 to 13 clays, missing only one target on her last station throughout the whole round.

Bacosi had already stepped atop of the ISSF world cup podium at the second world cup stage of the year in Al Ain. The Italian athlete, ranked second in the world, had grabbed a Rio 2016 Olympic Quota place there, qualifying for the next Games.

“It feels great to win my second world cup Gold back to back,” said Bacosi. “It gives me a lot of self confidence in the lead up to the European Games and to the ISSF World Championship.”

“This range is beautiful, it's the perfect place to shoot a world cup,” she continued. “But the wind can be challenging here, it hasn't been easy to pass through the qualifications. I gave my best in the semi-final, when the wind went down, and I finally made it.”

Two Olympic quotas were up for grabs at today's final. As Bacosi already had one, the first quota went to the Silver medallist, Yu Xiumin of the People's Republic of China.

Yu, coming back into an ISSF world cup final round after five years, qualified with 72 hits and then won a semi-final shoot-off with a score of 15+11 hits to advance to the Gold medal match, beating the 2008 Olympic finalist Sutiya Jiewchaloemmit, 28, from Thailand.

Today's Bronze went to one of the youngest finalists of this year's ISSF World Cup Series, USA's Morgan Craft, 21. Craft shoot her way to the podium by winning a qualification's shoot-off with 71+6 hits, and then shuttered 14 targets in the semi-final. She continued shooting in a semi-final shoot-off, beating Russia's first-time finalist Victoria Kholkina 4 to 3 hits, making it to the medal match. There, she met and defeat Jiewchaloemmit with a score of 15 to 13 hits, pocketing her very first ISSF world cup medal.

As USA has already achieved the maximum number of Olympic quotas for this event (2), the second Rio 2016 qualification spot to be awarded today went to Thailand's Jiewchaloemmit, who closed the match in fourth place.

Russia's first-time finalist Victoria Kholkina, 23, took the fifth place with 14 hits in the semi-final, after loosing a shoot-off for the Bronze medal match 3 to 4 hits against Craft. She was followed by another first-time finalist, Germany's 21-year old Nadine Messerschmidt, ranked 43^rd in the world, who closed the match in sixth place with 12 hits in the semi-final after qualifying for the final round with 72 hits.

490 athletes from 77 countries are competing in the third ISSF Shotgun World Cup of the season held at the Olympic Shooting Range of Larnaca, Cyprus, from the 26^th of April through the 3^rd of May.

The next medal match, the Skeet Men final, will take place tomorrow afternoon at 17.30 (Cyprus time, EEST). The final will be broadcasted live on www.issf-sports.org

This season's third ISSF World Cup in shotgun will start tomorrow in Larnaca, Cyprus.

This season's third ISSF World Cup in shotgun will start tomorrow in Larnaca, Cyprus.


Day 1 will feature men's skeet first round of qualification, as well as women's skeet qualification round and final. (Seeday-by-day schedule, or schedule by discipline.)


Qualifications for women's skeet will run from 9 am to 4:30 pm (EEST). The final will start at 5:30 pm.


Among those who will try to make the final there will be Kimberly Rhode, the three-time Olympic Gold Medalist who ranks first in her discipline's world ranking. The 35-year-old of the USA has already won a gold medal this season--Rhode beat her teammate Caitlin Connor and China's Wei Meng in the women's skeet final in Acapulco.


Both Connor and Meng will compete tomorrow as well.


Connor, 24, will find Rhode again in tomorrow's qualifications. She will try to make her way to the first World Cup gold in her career. Connor ranks 7th in the world ranking, just one spot behind Great Britain's Elena Allen. Wei, 25, was a World Cup Final silver medalist last year in Gabala. Ranked 9th worldwide, Wei had also won silver at the World Cup in Tucson earlier in the same season.


Italy's Diana Bacosi, who ranks second in the world, will join Rhode in the qualification round. The 32-year-old Bacosi also has won a gold already in the season. In Al Ain, she came atop an all-Italian women's skeet podium.


Olympic Gold Chiara Cainero, who came in second on that podium at Al Ain, will also be in tomorrow's qualifications. Cainero, 37, is ranked third in the world. She has won her last World Cup gold in July 2013 in Granada, Spain.


Two more athletes from the world top 10 will join the qualification round of women's skeet--Danka Bartekova and AndriEleftheriou.


Slovakia's Bartekova, 30, was an Olympic Bronze at London 2012, and won gold at last year's World Cup in Tucson.  Cyprus' Eleftheriou, who is Bartekova's peer, will be playing at home, and try to win a gold medal after eight years from her last World Cup triumph--at Belgrade in 2008.

ISSF WORLD CUP SHOTGUN IN LARNACA - CYP

Today, 490 shotguns athletes are gathering in Larnaca, on the beautiful island of Cyprus to start the third stage of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun,

The day will start with the first official training and ending at the evening with the celebration of the Opening Ceremony.

The five Olympic Rings will be represented by the countries of the five Continents:

The Blue Ring representing Europe will be represented by 39 countries and 226 athletes;

the Yellow Ring representing Asia will be attended by 19 nations and 156 athletes;

the Black Ring will have the participation of 5 African nations bringing  24 athletes;

the Green Ring of Oceania, will participate with two countries and 10 athlete;

Finally, the Red Ring, representing the American Continent will participate with 12 countries and 74 athletes,

Totalizing, 77 nations from five continents with a total of 490 athletes to compete for 10  Quotas Places for Rio 2016, beyond the 15 medals for the top three athletes in each event.

Road to Larnaca: Athletes to watch at season's 3rd Shotgun World Cup

A look at the athletes who will most likely make podiums at the World Cup in Cyprus

The season's third shotgun World Cup stage will take place in Larnaca, Cyprus from April 24th through May 4th--the first two editions were in Acapulco, Mexico and Al Ain, UAE. These are the athletes who are mostly expected to win medals at the competition.


Australia's Laetisha Scanlan, a three-time World Cup medallist, will compete in women's Trap. Scanlan, 25, won last year's World Cup in Tucson. Scanlan's teammate Catherine Skinner, a bronze medallist at last year's World Cup Final, will do the same.


Adam Vella, Australia's Olympic Bronze at Athens 2004, will compete in men's Trap. Vella, 23, won two World Cup Finals and three World Cups.


Croatia's hopes will be represented by the Glasnovic brothers, both competing in men's Trap. Josip Glasnovic, 21, won three World Cups and a World Championship. Anton Glasnovic, 24, is a three-time World Championship medallist.


Cyprus' Georgios Achilleos, a six-time World Cup gold medallist, will compete in men's Skeet. Achilleos, 24, won a World Championship in Cyprus in 2007. Andri Eleftheriou, Achilleos' teammate and a three-time World Cup medallist, will compete in women's Skeet. Eleftherious, 20, won a World Cup silver medal in Cyprus in 2013.


Jan Sychra of the Czech Republic, a six-time World Cup medallist, will compete in men's Skeet. Sychra, 46, came in sixth at the London 2012 Olympics.


Finland's Satu Makela-Nummela, an Olympic Gold at Beijing 2008, will compete in women's Trap. Makela-Nummela, 44, also won one World Cup Final and three World Cups.


Germany's Christine Wenzel, an Olympic Bronze at Beijing 2008, will compete in women's Skeet. Wenzel, 23, won four World Championships and 10 World Cup medals.


Italy's Diana Bacosi, an eight-time World Cup medallist, will compete in women's Skeet. Bacosi, 21, won a World Cup Final bronze medal in Abu Dhabi in 2013. Chiara Cainero, Bacosi's teammate and an Olympic Gold at Beijing 2008, will compete in the same event.


Daniele Di Spigno, also from Italy and a 15-time World Cup medallist, will compete in Double Trap. Di Spigno, 40, won a World Cup in Cyprus in 1997.


Jessica Rossi, the Italian shooter who broke every record at London 2012, will compete in women's Trap. Rossi, 23, won a World Champhionship in Cyprus as a Junior in 2007.


Kuwait's Fehaid Aldeehani, an Olympic Bronze at Sydney 2000 and London 2012, will compete in men's Trap and Double Trap. Aldeehani, 48, also won three World Cup Final bronze medals. His teammate Abdullah Alrashidi, an eight-time World Cup medallist, will compete in men's Skeet. Alrashidi, 51, won a World Championship in Cyprus in 1995.


Norway's Tore Brovold, an Olympic Silver at Beijing 2008, will compete in men's Skeet. Brovold, 44, won two World Cup Finals and four World Cups.


Qatar's Nasser Al-Attiya, an Olympic Bronze at London 2012, will compete in men's Skeet. Al-Attiya is also a driver wonhis second Dakar Rally title last January.


Russia's Alexey Alipov, a two-time Olympic medallist, will compete in men's Trap. Alipov, 39, won one World Cup Final and six World Cups. Vitaly Fokeev, Alipov's teammate and a 12-time World Cup medallist, will compete in Double Trap--so will do Vasily Mosin, an Olympic Bronze at London 2012.


Slovakia's Danka Bartekova, an Olympic Bronze at London 2012, will compete in Women's Skeet. Bartekova, 30, won one World Cup Final and four World Cups.


USA's Corey Cogdell, an Olympic Bronze at Beijing 2008, will compete in women's Trap. Cogdell, 28, won a gold medal at the World Cup in Acapulco earlier in the season. Walton Eller, Cogdell's teammate and an Olympic Gold at Beijing 2008, will compete in Double Trap. Walton, 33, won two World Championships, two World Cup Finals, and five World Cups. Walton's teammate Jeffrey Holguin, a seven-time World Cup medallist, will also take part in the event.


Vincent Hancock, also from the USA and a two-time Olympic Gold Medallist, will compete in men's Skeet. Kimberly Rhode, Hancock's teammate and a three-time Olympic Gold Medallist, will compete in women's Skeet.


After Larnaca, shotgun events this season will come back next August at the Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun World Cup Stage in Gabala, Azerbaijan. In September, Lonato, Italy will host the Shotgun World Championship. In October, Nicosia, Cyprus will host the Shotgun World Cup Final.

The next ISSF World Cup Shotgun will take place in the coastal city of Lanarka - Cyprus - April 24 - 4 May

The World Cup Shotgun games of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) are going to take place in the coastal city of Larnaka between April 24-May 4. More than 500 athletes from 77 countries will be competing in the games which include skeet, trap and double trap.

The games according to the ISSF website, are marking the specialty`s third World Cup Stage in the season.

During a press conference on Monday, Mayor of Larnaka , Andreas Louroutziatis said that the city has become a sport destination and has hosted a series of international sports events in the past. He said that Larnaka will also host two Beach Volley World Championship games.

He added that during the shooting games which will begin this coming Friday, the organizers will have the opportunity to promote Cyprus as a tourist destination, pointing out that Larnaka is offering a range of amenities.

Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation Chairman Demetris Lordos said that the games have attracted a huge number of athletes who are already in Cyprus with their families, adding that this is a great opportunity to promote our country as a sport and tourist destination.

The opening ceremony is taking place on April 25th at the Medieval Castle of Larnaka. President, Vice President and Secretary General of ISSF are expected to attend the ceremony.

Qualificação para os Jogos Olímpicos

Desde 1988 o Sistema de Qualificação Olímpica no Esporte do Tiro está baseado em dois fundamentos: A Cota de Vaga Olímpica; e o Escore Mínimo de Qualificação (MQS).

Cada atleta para ser elegível a participar dos jogos Olímpicos, necessita de uma Cota de Vaga Olímpica e deve ter alcançado, pelo menos uma vez, o (MQS) Escore Mínimo de Qualificação durante um período tempo definido.

Cotas Olímpicas

Dado o número limitado de vagas de qualificação disponível para o esporte do tiro nos Jogos Olímpicos, o sistema de qualificação para o nosso esporte é baseado em Vagas Olímpicas (a serem conquistadas). Somente 390 atletas poderão competir nos 15 eventos durante os Jogos Olímpicos.

Uma Vaga Olímpica é o ticket de qualificação para participar dos Jogos, atribuídos pela ISSF àqueles que alcançam o melhor escore durante as competições de Qualificação designadas pela ISSF tais como Campeonatos Mundiais, Copas Mundiais da ISSF, Campeonatos Continentais ou Jogos Continentais.

Um atleta só pode conquistar 1 Cota para o seu país, e cada país só pode conquistar até 2 cotas por evento e um total máximo de 30 Cotas em todos eventos.

Cota Olímpicas estão relacionados ao país: o atleta ganha a Cota, que passa a pertencer ao país do atleta. Cada país fica livre para decidir como usar a Cota Olímpica conquistada pelo seu atleta. Por isso, o atleta que ganha a Cota não está automaticamente qualificado para os Jogos, já que a decisão final deve ser tomada pela equipe, dele/ dela.   

MQS

O MQS (Escore Mínimo de Qualificação) é o menor escore que um atleta pode ter registrado dentro de um tempo determinado, para se tornar elegível para participar dos Jogos Olímpicos.

O MQS pessoal (Escore Individual de Qualificação IQS) de cada atleta é registrado durante os eventos de tiro supervisionados pela ISSF e cada atleta que desejar participar dos Jogos deve obtê-lo antes da realização dos jogos.

Ao país anfitrião dos Jogos, são reservadas 9 Cotas Vagas. Mesmo sem conquistar as Cotas em Campeonatos designados para isso. Mas o país só poderá inscrever atletas nessas cotas se eles tiverem alcançado os Escores Mínimos de Qualificação (MQS)
