Olympic Games: 1 Year to Go to #Rio2016

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be opened in one year, on the 5th of August 2015. 390 shooters will compete in Rio de Janeiro, starting from the 6th of August, in 15 Olympic shooting events.

Today, 5 August 2015, the countdown to the opening day of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro reaches the 1-year-to-go milestone.

When the Olympic Games Rio 2016 open in 365 days, on 5 August 2016, it will be the first time that the Games have been held in South America. A whole new region will be exposed to the magic of the Games and the Olympic values.

“Rio is becoming another city. The Games are leaving a legacy that will be an example for future Games organisers.” – Carlos Nuzman, President of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee, said.

"With one year to go, the preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games are advancing smoothly. We are constantly in touch with the Organizing Committee and we have visited the Shooting venues in Rio several times. At the same time, the Olympic qualification path for the Shooting Sport is going on well, according to plans. The ISSF has already assigned most of the 390 Olympic Quotas available for our sport through our ISSF World Cup Series, the ISSF World Championships, and designed continental competitions." The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said.

"We are looking forward to a great Olympic Games edition in Rio de Janeiro, in one year. The International Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee are doing an excellent job to ensure the best conditions for our athletes. Rio 2016 will be a great sport festival!" The ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña said.

The Rio Games will be running from the 5th through the 21st of August, with 19 days of Olympic Games events and 12 days of Paralympic Games events scheduled.

More than 200 National olympic Committees are expected to compete, with approximately 10.500 athletes at the starting blocks. 28 sports, comprising 306 medal events, will be conducted on 33 competition venues plus 5 football venues, with over 21.000 media and broadcaster to cover the event.

After the opening ceremony, scheduled for the 5th of August 2016 at the Maracanã Stadium, the Olympic Shooting events will be once again the first sport to award a Gold medal, on the 6th of August.

The nine days of shooting competitions will end on August 14th 2016, seven days before the end of the Summer Olympics.

The venue of the fifteen Olympic Shooting events is going to be the Olympic Shooting Centre, located inside one of the two Olympic Parks: the Deodoro venues, in the northern part of the city.

The centre is one of the already existing venues of Rio 2016, as it was built for the Rio 2007 Pan-American Games, used then for an ISSF World Cup, and it will undergo some modifications before the Olympics.

The Deodoro Olympic Park will also host Hockey, Rugby, Basketball, Canoe, Modern Pentathlon, BMX, Mountain Bike, Equestrian and will be one of the main spots of the Rio 2016 sport program.
