Final Skeet Women Junior
ISSF Junior World Cup Shotgun · Porpetto, ITA
A third consecutive Junior World Record was signed in Porpetto, as Katharina Monika Jacob ruled the women’s Skeet event at the ISSF Junior World Cup. Chinese 18-year-old Che Yufei finished in 2nd place followed by first-time participant Lea Richard of France.
Once again, Katharina Monika Jacob of the United States of America proved to be one of the most promising talents of the women’s Skeet shooting scene: leading a trio of American finalists, she entered the match with the highest qualification score, then winning her third international medal, the second as a junior shooter after the Junior World Cup Gold claimed in Suhl (GER) last year. The 18-year-old from Rochester, MI, also set a new Junior World Record, beating the previous one by 6 target hits.
Jacob battled head to head with People’s Republic of China’s Che Yufei for the first half of the match, but when the Chinese 18-year-old missed three consecutive targets from station number 5, the United States’ youngster found herself sitting on a comfortable lead that she successfully maintained all along the match, securing the Gold medal with 47 hits.
Che, the 2015 ISSF World Champion in Lonato (ITA), finished with 44 and took Silver. The podium was completed by 15-year-old debutant Lea Richard of France, who hit 37 clays and put the Bronze medal around her neck.
Richard was followed by 16-year-old Austen Jewell Smith and 17-year-old Song Zhengyi, respectively teammates of Jacob and Che, who placed 4th with 29 hits and 5th with 20. Both Smith and Song were participating in their first international competition.
Samantha Simonton (17), the third United States’ final participant, was the first shooter to be eliminated from the match, placing 6th with 13 hits.
Live results of the competitions, news and updates will be available on www.issf-sports.org and on all ISSF social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Weibo and Youku.
The ISSF Junior World Cup Shotgun in Porpetto (ITA) will conclude tomorrow with the men’s Skeet Junior final taking place at 5:00 pm (UTC+2:00). The final will be streamed live on the ISSF website, on the Federation’s Livestream channel and on its official Facebook page.
