The two teammates finished in 1st and 2nd place at today’s 10m Air Pistol Women final, leaving Singapore’s Teo Shun Xie in third place.
Day-3 of the ISSF Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun World Cup in New Delhi, India, kicked-off with an exciting 10m Air Pistol Women final, which turned once again into a stage fo success for the People’s Republic of China.

2014 Junior World Champion Lin Yuemei, 23, finished atop of the podium, outscoring the reigning Olympic Champion - her teammate Zhang Mengxue, 26 - with 240.8 points, setting the new world record.

Lin had already participated in senior events in 2015 and 2016, winning a world cup silver in Gabala, Azerbaijan, two years ago.

“Actually I was kinda nervous during the final match,” said Lin at the end of the medal ceremony. “Zhang is a great friend of mine, we train and spend a lot of time together. It’s a great feeling to win a medal here, in the first competition of the season.”

“The goal of a shooter is always to win at the Olympics, so it’s never too early to set them as a goal,” continued Lin. “The Organizing Committee did a great job here, everything was perfect, it was also thanks to their excellent job that I won this Gold!”

Olympic Champion Zhang scored 237.8 points to take today’s silver.

The People’s Republic of China therefore continues to dominate the championship: so far, their athletes won 4 out of the 6 gold medals up for grabs here in New Delhi, and an impressive total tally of 7 out of 18 possible medals. Nine more events will be conducted from today right to the 3rd of March, when the first World Cup stage of the season will be officially closed.

Singapore’s Teo Shun Xie, 28, - the winner of last year’s world cup bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro,  - scored 217.4 points to win today’s bronze medal.

Two teammates from Chinese Taipei, Yu Ai Wen, 21, and Tien Chia Chen, 33, followed the medallists in 4th and 5th place with 196.5 and 175.6 points, respectively.

20-year old Michelle Skeries of Germany, compering in her first senior match after wining a silver medal at last year’s ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, scored 154.4 points to finish in 6th place.

Golnoush Sebghatollahi of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 26, competing in her first world cup final match today, was the first to drop out of the elimination match after shot 12, taking the 8th place with 113.7 points. India’s Harven Srao, 30, followed her two shots later, closing the final in 7th place with 133.6 points.

ISSF Meetings: Tokyo 2020 recommendation, Agenda 2020 implementations and Championships designation

23.02.2017

The ISSF Executive Committee and Administrative Council unanimously approved the recommendation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic program that aims to achieve gender equality and retain 15 Olympic events. Agenda 2020 implementation and designation of 2018 / 2019 ISSF Championships organizers were also among key decisions taken during the meetings.
The ISSF Executive Committee and Administrative Council met in New Delhi, India, on 21 and 22 February. The agenda of the meetings included the discussion of recommendations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic shooting program, the implementation of Agenda 2020 principles regarding sustainability, and the designation of 2018 and 2019 ISSF Championships organizers.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Program recommendation
The ISSF Executive Committee and the Administrative Council discussed and unanimously approved the recommendations of the ISSF Ad Hoc Committee concerning the implementation of IOC Agenda 2020 and its objective of achieving gender equality for Tokyo 2020.

After an exhaustive two-year evaluation process, the ISSF Ad-Hoc Committee recommended replacing the Double Trap Men event with a Trap Mixed Gender Team event, the 50m Rifle Prone Men event with a 10m Air Rifle Mixed Gender Team event and the 50m Pistol Men event with a 10m Air Pistol Mixed Gender Team event.  This proposal was developed to preserve discipline parity and retain 15 Olympic shooting events – 5 Rifle, 5 Pistol, 5 Shotgun.

This recommendation will be forwarded to the IOC by 28 February, the IOC deadline for international federations to submit their 2020 program proposals.  The IOC Program Commission will then evaluate the proposal and the IOC Executive Board will decide the 2020 Olympic shooting events program later this summer.

“We believe this is a fundamental step forward for our beloved sport,” ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña said. “We fully support gender equality, and our Committees have worked very hard to develop a Tokyo 2020 proposal that will support the future growth of our sport. We want to retain 15 Olympic events, preserve equality in our three disciplines - rifle, pistol and shotgun - and offer all female and male athletes the same opportunities. Shooting is one of the oldest and most universal sports of the world; inclusion is part of our DNA.”

A detailed explanation regarding the development of these proposals to achieve gender equality in shooting was posted on the ISSF website on 20 February (http://www.issf-sports.org/news.ashx?newsid=2729 )

Agenda 2020 implementation: Sustainability
The ISSF Executive Committee designated a new Ad Hoc Committee for Sustainability and appointed Mr. Jörg Brokamp, Chairman of the ISSF Technical Committee, as Chairman of the new body. The Committee will include six members: ISSF Executive Committee member Robert Mitchell, the Chairman of the ISSF Judges Committee Peter Underhill, the Chairman of the ISSF Shotgun Committee Demetris Lordos, the member of the European Shooting Confederation Environment Committee Stefano Rosi, the Managing Director of the German Shooting Ranges Association Joachim Streitberger and the Member of the ISSF Medical Committee Dr. Neda Nozari. They will be responsible for developing ISSF sustainability and environmental policies and guidelines, on the road to Tokyo 2020.

“Sustainability is one of the working principles of the Olympic Movement,” ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said. “The ISSF and its Technical Committee have always paid special attention to the importance of environmental issues. Now, with the appointment of an Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainability, this will become an even higher priority for the ISSF and our sport.”

Designation of 2018 and 2019 ISSF Championships
The ISSF Executive Committee designated ISSF Championships organizers for the 2018 and the 2019 seasons, with the exception of the 2018 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Final (final decision is still pending). The Organizing Committees awarded were:
-    2018 ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final: Al Ain (UAE)
-    2019 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup stage: Munich (GER)

A full report of the meetings will be published in the ISSF News Magazine 03/2017. In accordance to the principle of transparency the agenda and the minutes will be posted on a public section of the ISSF website (http://www.issf-sports.org/theissf/organisation/issfreports.ashx) as soon as they are approved by the relevant bodies.
