Anna Korakaki and Federico Gil selected as Athlete Role Models for Buenos Aires 2018

Anna Korakaki         and           Federico Gil
The two shooters were selected by the International Shooting Sport Federation to support and mentor the young athletes that will participate in the 3rd Youth Olympic Games, taking place in the Argentinian capital city from the 6th to the 18th of October 2018.
The International Olympic Committee revealed 25 of the 50 Athlete Role Models who will gather in Buenos Aires (ARG) in October 2018, to support the next generation of young athletes competing in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Among them, the International Shooting Sport Federation selected Argentina’s 29-year-old Federico Gil and Greece’s 21-year-old Anna Korakaki.

Both athletes will be on hand for a minimum of five days, playing a key role in mentoring the young shooters that will be participating in the Games. Korakaki and Gil will also be accessible to the athletes in the Youth Olympic Village and during a series of activities and workshops, focusing on areas such as skills development, careers advice, how to lead healthy lifestyles and the Olympic values.

During the competition, ARMs will stay behind the scenes, being available for informal chats in a specially created lounge that will be open to all participants. Fans of the YOG will also have the opportunity to ask their questions directly to Gil and Korakaki during informal chat sessions on the Olympic Channel and on wider social media platforms.

The main goal behind the ARM programme is to enable them to share their experiences and inspire the athletes to be the best they can be both on and off the field of play. Athlete feedback from previous YOG editions have shown that the ARM programme is consistently ranked highly in athletes’ experience. Young athletes are inspired by these models, not only to perform at their best, but also to become positive role models themselves.
Federico Gil made his Olympic debut at Rio 2016, where he finished in 27th place in the men’s Skeet event, while he claimed his first ISSF World Cup Gold at this year’s competition in Larnaka (CYP).

Anna Korakaki, instead, is a former YOG athlete, as she placed 4th in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event at Nanjing 2014. The Greek athlete shined bright at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, taking Bronze in the women’s 10m Air Pistol and Gold in the women’s 25m Pistol.

The Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games will take place in Buenos Aires from October 6th to October 18th.

ISSF Industry meeting held in Munich (GER)

7-11-2017

Following yesterday’s ISSF Executive Committee meeting, ISSF authorities welcomed 40 shooting sport industry representatives from 31 companies in Munich today, in an effort to involve this important group of stakeholders in the ongoing developments of the sport.
The second ISSF Industry meeting of the year was held in Munich, Germany, today. The meeting was part of an increasing ISSF effort to encourage communication and cooperation between ISSF and its stakeholders.

The industry representatives met ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña, Secretary General Franz Schreiber, Vice Presidents Gary Anderson and Wang Yifu, and ISSF Executive Committee members, at the Hilton Park Hotel this morning.

The meeting was opened by a welcome speech of ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña, followed by report from Mr. Gary Anderson on the 2016 ISSF achievement. His report emphasized  participation, universality, geographical spread and media exposure of the sport.

Decisions and proposals decided yesterday by the ISSF Executive Committee were reported to the participants, with a focus on key areas involving manufacturers and suppliers. The ISSF Forum 2024 - an inclusive online platform aiming at boosting communication among shooting sport stakeholders - was introduced to the participants, and it will be launched in the next months.

Furthermore, industry representatives were provided important information on ISSF equipment control and sustainability programs, updates on the 52nd ISSF World Championship in All Events in Changwon (that will boost 53 individual events and 53 team events), as well as details on forthcoming ISSF governance activities and on ISSF Championships calendar proposals.

“The cooperation between the ISSF and the shooting sport Industry has always been positive, with mutual respect and understanding of our respective roles. This meeting proves this once again.” ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña said.

“Today’s presentations started some positive and constructive exchanges of opinions. This was our aim: sharing ideas. I would very much like this collaboration to continue, and I support the industry’s recommendation that a permanent ISSF Industry Committee be formed.”

“We are entering a new era for the shooting sport. Yesterday, our Executive Committee made several decisions to further open up our competitions and to develop our Championships calendar. Shooting is an universal sport, and we are working at every level to make it even more inclusive and popular, starting from grassroots up to the Masters. We want all our stakeholders to be involved in the process. All positive inputs are welcome, to make our sport stronger.”

ISSF Executive Committee met in Munich (GER)

Championships calendar reorganization, rules, gender equality implementation, Tokyo 2020 quota place allocation and stakeholders inclusion were at the heart of the meeting.
The ISSF Executive Committee met in Munich, Germany, yesterday, 6 November 2017. The Committee voted and approved several important agenda points related to championships reorganization, rules, stakeholders inclusion, gender equality and Tokyo 2020 Olympic quota places allocation.

ISSF Championships calendar reorganization
The ISSF Executive Committee unanimously decided to reorganize the World Cup Final calendar, holding the competition once every two years, to not conflict with the Olympic Games and the World Championship. The ISSF Technical Committee will review the qualification process for the Finals during their next meetings.

At the same time, the Executive Committee approved the possibility for ISSF Championships Organizers to schedule Grand-Prix competitions in non-Olympic events within the frame of ISSF World Cup and ISSF Junior World Cup stages. Detailed rules will be published soon.

The proposal of the German Shooting Federation (DSB) to organize a World Master shooting  Championship was also given the green light.

These moves fall in the context of a wider reorganization of the ISSF Championships calendar, which was proposed by the Executive Committee at their meeting in March 2016.

With the aim to rationalize the yearly competition's schedule, a new Championships calendar will be proposed to the ISSF General Assembly in November 2018. This proposal includes World Championships every two years and Junior World Championships every two years. In every four-year Olympic cycle there will be one world championship each year. This response to requests from ISSF Member Federations and stakeholders, and at the same time would improve media exposure for the sport and ease marketing activities both at international and national level.

ISSF Forum 2024: new discussion platform for stakeholders moves forward
Following a decision was taken by the 2017 ISSF Extraordinary General Assembly, the Executive Committee reviewed the implementation of the ISSF Forum 2024, an inclusive forum that will serve as a platform of discussion, information, and feedback among ISSF bodies and stakeholders. The forum will start-off as an online tool, which will be released in the next months. The forum will be moderated by Executive Committee member Robert Mitchell. Further details will be published on www.issf-sports.org

ISSF Rules: mixed teams rules and equal numbers of shots for men and women
After a comprehensive report from ISSF Technical Committee chairman Mr. Joerg Brokamp, and a presentation delivered by ISSF Vice President Gary Anderson, the Executive Committee agreed to recommend a series of ISSF rules changes, which will be forwarded to the ISSF Administrative Council for final approval.

The recommendation includes final rules for the new Mixed Team events that will feature continuous elimination formats. These events were approved by the ISSF and the IOC for inclusion in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games shooting program.

The Executive Committee, after almost a year of discussion and analysis, decided to recommend that the number of shots/targets in men’s and women’s events be equalized. This decision will increase the number of shots/targets in women’s events.

Tokyo 2020 Quota Rules
The ISSF Executive Committee revised the proposed rules for allocating Tokyo 2020 Olympic quota places, which will be forwarded to the IOC for their final approval. This is expected to happen in February 2018.

The ISSF aims to achieve full gender equality - both in terms of events and quota places. In Tokyo, there will be 180 men and 180 women, participating in 3 Mixed Team, and 6 men’s and 6 women’s individual events.

According to the proposed rule, quota place allocation will start from the 2018 ISSF World Championship to be held in in Changwon (KOR) from the 31st of August through the 14th of September. The proposed process also includes some quota places to be assigned through world rankings.

Full details of the allocation process will be published as soon as a final decision on the matter is received from the IOC.

2018 ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Malta
The ISSF Executive Committee received a report on the ongoing preparations for the 2018 ISSF Shotgun World Cup stage in Malta, where a new shooting complex is being built. Even if the construction of the venue experienced some delays, both the Organizing Committee and the ISSF Technical Delegate for the competition have assured the ISSF that the preparations will be completed according to the schedule. The range will be finished in March 2018, in time to be tested and host the competition from 5 to 15 of June 2018. The Executive Committee, therefore, confirmed the allocation of the World Cup Stage.

ISSF President: “these decisions will strengthen the shooting sports family”
“Thank you very much for the positive work we conducted here today,” the ISSF President Olegario Vázquez Raña said in his closing remarks. “I feel very happy that this meeting was working in favor of shooting sport. We are moving forward some important steps, ensuring gender equality, rationalizing our championships program, and responding to our stakeholders, in order to strengthen the shooting sports family.”
