Anna Korakaki and Federico Gil
The two shooters were selected by the International Shooting Sport Federation to support and mentor the young athletes that will participate in the 3rd Youth Olympic Games, taking place in the Argentinian capital city from the 6th to the 18th of October 2018.
The International Olympic Committee revealed 25 of the 50 Athlete Role Models who will gather in Buenos Aires (ARG) in October 2018, to support the next generation of young athletes competing in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
Among them, the International Shooting Sport Federation selected Argentina’s 29-year-old Federico Gil and Greece’s 21-year-old Anna Korakaki.
Both athletes will be on hand for a minimum of five days, playing a key role in mentoring the young shooters that will be participating in the Games. Korakaki and Gil will also be accessible to the athletes in the Youth Olympic Village and during a series of activities and workshops, focusing on areas such as skills development, careers advice, how to lead healthy lifestyles and the Olympic values.
During the competition, ARMs will stay behind the scenes, being available for informal chats in a specially created lounge that will be open to all participants. Fans of the YOG will also have the opportunity to ask their questions directly to Gil and Korakaki during informal chat sessions on the Olympic Channel and on wider social media platforms.
The main goal behind the ARM programme is to enable them to share their experiences and inspire the athletes to be the best they can be both on and off the field of play. Athlete feedback from previous YOG editions have shown that the ARM programme is consistently ranked highly in athletes’ experience. Young athletes are inspired by these models, not only to perform at their best, but also to become positive role models themselves.
Federico Gil made his Olympic debut at Rio 2016, where he finished in 27th place in the men’s Skeet event, while he claimed his first ISSF World Cup Gold at this year’s competition in Larnaka (CYP).
Anna Korakaki, instead, is a former YOG athlete, as she placed 4th in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event at Nanjing 2014. The Greek athlete shined bright at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, taking Bronze in the women’s 10m Air Pistol and Gold in the women’s 25m Pistol.
The Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games will take place in Buenos Aires from October 6th to October 18th.
