ISSF World Cup - 50m Rifle Prone

Two Chinese flags weave upon the 50m Rifle Prone Men podium

The first-time finalist Hau Kai beat his titled teammate Lan Xing at the last shot to win his first ISSF medal in Beijing, on his home turf.
Hau Kai of the People's Republic of China won the 50m Rifle Prone Men final at the 2014 ISSF World Cup in Beijing, beating his teammate Lan Xing at the very last shot.

Lan Xing, the winner of the last world cup stage in Maribor, and currently ranked fifth in the world, led the final round from the 10th shot on, right to 19th shot, when his advantage on Hao was down to 0.1 points only.
The last shot turned then the tables in favor of Hau, a 29-year old first-time finalist, who fired a great 10.4 beating Lan's 10.1 to finish atop of the podium with a total score of 208.2 points. Lan eventually secured the Silver medal with 208.0 points.

“Going against my teammate did not add extra pressure on me. On the contrary, knowing that both the Silver and the Gold medal were going to be for China, I relaxed and I tried to fire that last shot in the best possible way.” Hou said.

“I was already happy to make it to the final, and I am excited to walk out of it with the Gold medal around my neck.” The first-time medallist said, after the award ceremony.

“I had never entered a final round in a world-level competition before, but I have been training hard for finals and I was confident. I just did what my coach told me to do.” He added.

The Bronze medal went to Sweden's 26-year old first-time finalist Sam Adersson, who scored 187.2 points beating Norway's Kjell Roar Livold (fourth with 166.0 points) with a perfect 10.9-point shot.

ISSF WORLD CUP IN BEIJING - 10m Air Rifle

Louginets (RUS) beat Yang (CHN) to win his second world cup Gold

The winner of the first world cup stage of the season Nazar Louginets finished atop of Beijing's podium, beating the current #1 in the world Yang Haoran, shooting on his home turf.
Nazar Louginets made it again. The 25-year old Russian shooter claimed Gold at Beijing's 10m Air Rifle Men final, after winning the first match of the year in Fort Benning, and making the final at the Munich's world cup.

Scoring 209.3 points in the final, he beat the current world rank leader and world record holder, China's 18-year old Yang Haoran.

Louginets, followed here by his father, who introduced him to the shooting sport and keeps on coaching him, nailed a series of great shots, today. Series after series, he moved atop of the scoreboard, where he dueled against Yang right to the last shot. With a final shot of 10.3 points he indeed beat his Chinese opponents, who scored a 10.1 placing himself in second place.

Yang ended up with a finals score of 209.1 points, establishing a new Junior Final World Record on his home turf, and claiming the Silver, his second medal of the season after the world cup Gold he won in Munich last June.

Another protagonist of this year's ISSF World Cup Series, Hungary's 35-year old world record holder Peter Sidi, secured the Bronze medal with 187.0 points, beating the 2012 Olympic Silver medallist Niccolo Campriani of Italy.

Sidi had also finished on the podium of the previous world cup stage in Maribor, where he claimed the Silver medal. “I have changed a lot of pieces of equipment,” he explained there, “that's why I have been struggling last year. It took time to fine-tune the new gears, but now I have good feelings. I am looking forward to the next competitions, especially to the world championship. I am back!” He said, and he was right.

Following Campriani (fourth with 164.0 points), Korea's Kim Sang Do took the fifth place with 143.5 points, while the two Chinese finalists Cao Yifei and Liu Tianyou ended up in sixth and seventh place with 122.6 and 101.8 points, respectively. Norway's Ole Magnus Bakken closed the final in eighth and last place with 76.7 points.

ISSF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN BEIJING - Air Pistol Results

Jin Jongoh claimed 10m Air Pistol Gold at the last shot 'And now the Wolrd Championship”

The five-time Olympic medallist from Korea won the match beating Turkey's Dikec at the last shot, securing Gold two months before the world championship. “I am not ready yet, but I am confident that I will be in shape by September. I want a quota place!”
Korea's reigning Olympic champion Jin Jongoh claimed Gold today's 10m Air Pistol Men final at the 2014 ISSF World Cup in Beijing, China.

He won the match competing in the same final hall where he had pocketed an Olympic Silver medal, back in 2008. And he did it in a spectacular way, first shooting-off China's Pu Qifeng, and then overtaking Turkey's Yusuf Dikec at the last shot.

Jin scored a total of 200.6 points, climbing up the scoreboard in the second part of the match, to win his seventh ISSF world cup Gold medal in this event.

“The shoot-off helped me a lot, it gave me the right confidence for the final shots.” Jin said. When he tied Pu after the 18th shot, he was indeed 0.6 points behind Dikec leading the group at that moment.

The last two shots turned out to be determinant: Dickec scored a 9.3 and a 9.5 (total: 200.3 points), sliding back in second place and leaving the Gold to Jin, who marked a 9.3 and a 10.4 to finish atop of the podium.

At the same time, Pu Qifeng took the Bronze with 180.9 points, while the home hero – the 2008 Olympic Champion Pang Wei – ended up in fourth place with 159.6 points. Kazakhstan's Rashid Yunusmetov followed him in fifth place with 139.9 points, leaving the sixth place to Ismail Keles of Turkey with 118.0 points. The second Korean finalist Lee Daemyung and the Russian finalist Sergey Chervyakovskiy closed the round in seventh and eighth place with 96.8 and 75.7 points, respectively.

“Competing in this place is always great. I really wanted to make it through the final, because I wanted to shoot in the final hall where I won two Olympic medals back in 2008.” Jin said after the final.

“I have been lucky, today.” He added then. But luck has little to do with his performances: with five Olympic medals, 16 world cup medals and a couple of Asian championship golds around his neck, Jin is probably the most successful pistol shooter of the modern ISSF era, and counting.

The only trophy missing from his showcase is the world championship Gold, and that's his goal, on the road leading to the 51 ISSF World Championship in Granada.

“I am not really ready for the championship. I am still fine-tuning my preparation.” Jin said today. But than added: “I am not under pressure: I still have two months to make my best condition.” The pressure is indeed back on his opponents.
