Rio 2016 Olympic medalists and world cup title defenders meet the best rifle and pistol athletes of this year’s ISSF World Cup Series on the lines of the T.S.N. Bologna, with the 2016 ISSF World Cup Titles in their sights.
The 2016 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Final officially kicked-off at the Tiro a Segno Nazionale shooting range, in Bologna, Italy.
99 athletes coming from 34 countries will compete here from tomorrow morning right to the 10th of October in the 10 Olympic rifle and pistol shooting events. The best athletes of the season, selected through the 2016 ISSF World Cup Stages in Bangkok (THA), Rio de Janeiro (BRA), Munich (GER) and Baku (AZE), will meet the title defenders and the Olympic medalists of Rio 2016, aiming at the ISSF World Cup Titles.
“In behalf of the ISSF, of the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña and the ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber, I welcome you to this last competition of the year,” the ISSF Technical Delegate Robert Mitchell said at the opening ceremony. “We are grateful to the Italian Shooting Sport Federation UITS for hosting us in the beautiful city of Bologna. I wish you all the very best!”
“Today, the best shooters of the world are here. I would like to welcome them all in Italy,” the President of the Italian Shooting Sport Federation UITS, Mr. Enfried Obrist, said at the opening ceremony. “May the best win, competing in fair play!”
“In behalf of the President of the Italian Olympic Committee Giovanni Malagò, I would like to welcome you all to Bologna,” the CONI delegate Umberto Soprani added, “Shooting is a very important sport for our country, and we are constantly working to support it, developing new grassroots programs. It’s an honor to have so many champions here today, and I wish they will inspire the new generations through their achievements.”
The medal matches will start tomorrow (October 6th). The 50m Pistol Men final will assign the first medals at 12.30 (UTC+2), while the 50m Rifle Prone Men final will follow at 1.45 PM. The competition is due to continue the following day, October 7th, with the 25m pistol Women and the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men finals scheduled at 3.30 and 4.45 PM. October 8th will see four medal events: the 10m Air Rifle Women and Men finals (1.30 and 2.45 PM, respectively), and the 10m Air Pistol Women and Men finals (4.00 and 5.15 PM). The 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women and Men finals will close the World Cup Final even on October 9th, at 2.30 and 4.00 PM.
