China, in the 10m Mixed Team, pockets the first Olympic quota place at stake in Changwon, and Team Russia rules 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team final, scores new record

Final 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team

52nd ISSF World Championship All Events · Changwon, KOR

Yang Haoran and Zhao Ruozhu bested the second Chinese team in the final, finishing with 500.9 points and securing both the World Championship title and one of the two Olympic quota places up for grabs in this event.
With only one shot left in the final of the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event, 22-year-old Yang Haoran and 20-year-old Zhao Ruozhu of the People’s Republic of China finalized their comeback and overtook the second Chinese team in the final — featuring Song Buhan (21) and Wu Mingyang (21) — securing the first title of the 52nd ISSF World Championship in Changwon (KOR).
In the third 5-shot series of the match, Yang and Zhao totalized a fantastic score of 105.1 points, then closing the gap during the elimination phase and finishing atop the podium with 500.9 points.
Wu and Song, instead, were not able to maintain their initial pace, eventually taking silver with 500.6 points.
Team 2 of the People’s Republic of China also secured one of the two Olympic quota places up for grabs in this event. The second one was awarded to the Russian Federation, as Anastasiia Galashina and Vladimir Maslennikov completed the podium in 3rd place, scoring 434.2 points and securing a slot in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Despite shooting brilliantly in the final phase of their match, Romania’s Laura-Georgeta Coman (25) and Alin George Moldoveanu (35) placed just outside of the podium positions, concluding in 4th position with 390.5 points.
Germany’s 21-year-old Maximilian Dallinger and 27-year-old Isabella Straub was the first duo eliminated from the final: the two German shooters totalized 99.3 points in their first series, failing to move up from the 5th place for the rest of the match and finishing with 346.9 points.

Team Russia rules 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team final, scores new record

Vitalina Batsarashkina and Artem Chernousov shot a new world record to win the world title and a Tokyo 2020 Olympic quota place at the 52nd ISSF World Championship in Changwon, South Korea, today.
The 52nd ISSF World Championship in all events in Changwon continued this afternoon with the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event, where four Olympic quota places were awarded.
Team Russian Federation 1 (Vitalina Batsarashkina and Artem Chernousov) secured the brightest medal with a record score of 488.1 points, shattering the previous record of 487.7 points scored earlier this year by team China (here in Changwon, while competing in an ISSF World Cup, in April).
 Artem Chernousov said:
“This shooting range is technically perfect. This is the perfect place to score high results and beat world record.”
Vitalina Batsarashkina added:
“We won two Olympic Quota places and scored a new world record. We couldn’t be happier!”
“The quota place goes to the country, not the athletes. We will have to go through selection matches, back home, in Russia, to qualify for the Games.”
The winning team finished atop of the podium with a huge margin of 7.9 points on silver medalists Wang Qian and Wang Meng Yi of the People’s Republic of China, who took the second place with 480.2 points, winning their first medal in this event.
Team Russia and team China secured the four Tokyo 2020 quota places up for grabs at today’s final (one per each team members, for the first two teams). The other teams competing in Tokyo will be formed by double-starter athletes qualified in individual events.
Today’s Bronze medal went to Ukraine, thanks to the 2004 Olympic Champion Olena Kostevych and to the 2008 World Cup winner Oleh Omelchuk, who scored 416.7 points today. They were followed by team Serbia (Zorana Arunovic, Damir Mikec, 376.6 points) and by team Spain (Sonia Franquet, Pablo Carrera, 331.6 points).
