Teachers at an ISSF Training Academy “D”-level course in Italy used biomechanics-based methods to educate future clay shooting international coaches
Though many of them were clay shooting experts with many years' experience in the field, participants at an ISSF “D”-level course for clay shooting international coaches in Italy found it interesting and rewarding to first learn with a scientific methodology about topics they already were familiar with. The approach the ISSF promotes draws from scientific research on biomechanics to offer a different point of view on technical and tactical matters of clay shooting.
The course—which took place in Todi, Italy, at the TAV Umbriaverde shooting range from 5 to 9 November 2014—featured all the main aspects of clay shooting teaching; plus, it used innovative, scientific methods with roots in biomechanics. Professor Alberto Cei of the Università di Tor Vergata, Rome, lectured on mental training; Professor Fabio Partigiani, the athletic trainer of Italy national clay shooting team, covered athletic training.
Clay shooting athletes and coaches from all over Europe joined the course—Paolo Donato, the coach of France national clay shooting team, Double Trap European Champion Gombos Kàroly of Hungary, Trap shooters Nikola Markovic of Montenegro and Stefano Selva of San Marino, as well as Alessandro Chianese and Ferdinando Rossi, two members of Italy's Double Trap team.
The Italian Clay Shooting Sport Federation (FITAV) organized and promoted the course; Diego Gasperini, an“A”-level international coach, directed it.
A final exam followed the classes and closed the course, giving participants the chance to become “D”-level international coaches, the beginning of their careers. The next step in the ISSF Training Academy path will be the “C”-level course.
Other than those who achieved the “D”-level international coach status, every course participant gained the FITAV student instructor title, FITAV Vice President Paolo Fiori said. Fiori greeted the course participants and welcomed them to the FITAV family.
