Due to the success and continued rising demand for D course instructors, the ISSF Academy has created a pilot workshop to train and develop qualified tutors to deliver the Academy’s D-Course to the required high standards.
Over a three-day period, 13 graduates of the ISSF Academy’s B-Courses attended a workshop in TAV Umbriaverde in Italy where they were mentored by the head tutors of the ISSF Academy Dr. Kevin Kilty (IRL), Dr. Zeljko Todorovic (MNE), Mr. Kimmo Yli-Jaskari (FIN) and Prof. Claudio Robbaza (ITA).
The workshop focused on the correct delivery of the D-course contents, the methodologies of teaching and guidance in how to create a learning experience within the classroom. Participants took part in many workshops where they took turns in delivering modules from the D course under the critical eye of the Academy’s head tutors.
The feedback from the participants was very encouraging. Emin Jafarov (AZE) said of the course, “I was delighted to be here to test my teaching skills and to learn the most important things about the D course to get right. The Academy tutors gave us many examples from their own experiences and this was really useful to me. I’m already looking forward to running my first D course as soon as possible”
Participants in the workshop were Emin Javarov (AZE), Lisa Borgerson and Susan Nattrass (CAN), Hamed Seif Eldin Daoud (EGY), Malcolm Allen (GBR), Sonal Ramendra (IND), Guy Starik (ISR), Marko Sokic (MNE), Anne Jeppesen and Leif Rolland (NOR), Alfredo Ortiz Torres (PUR), Chea Rong Lim and Swee Hon Nigel Lim (SGP).
Academy tutor Dr. Kevin Kilty spoke of the need for this workshop, “Over the last few years we have seen dramatic and a very pleasing rise in the requests from member federations to have the ISSF Academy conduct a D course for them. The Academy needs to grow and this is our first step in creating the next generation of Academy tutors who will conduct our courses. Ii is my hope that this workshop will become a regular feature on our calendar and mark a great expansion of the Academy as we strive to deliver sport development to all our member federations.”
