The first competition of the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Larnaka, Cyprus, the women’s Skeet event, will see some of the best athletes of the world shooting for the medals.
Four out of the six Olympic finalists of Rio 2016 are set to compete in the event. USA’s 6-time Olympic medalist Kimberly Rhode (Bronze in Rio 2016) arrived here in Cyprus after nailing three consecutive victories, at the 2016 ISSF World Cup Final in Rome and at both the 2017 ISSF World Cup Stages in New Delhi (IND) and Acapulco (MEX).
In Larnaka, where she’s chasing the fourth gold in a row, she will meet again Italy’s 2008 Olympic Champion and 2016 Olympic Silver medalist Chiara Cainero of Italy, and Rio 2016 4th and 6th placed Wei Meng of the People’s Republic of China and Amber Hill of Great Britain.
Rhode will also face young, up and coming athletes, competing on the layouts of the Olympic Shooting Range of Larnaka. Her 22-year old teammate Dania Jo Vizzi, a 2015 junior world championship bronze medalist, is set to compete in the event tomorrow, and the silver medalist of the 2016 ISSF Junior World Cup Niina Aaltonen of Finland will also be among the medal contenders.
The competition will start at 8.00 (UTC+3) tomorrow morning (April the 30th). All athletes will go through three 25-clay qualification rounds, for a total of 75 targets. The top-6 will advance to the final, scheduled at 17.15 (UTC+3), where they will compete for the medals in an elimination-style round.
The final match will be streamed live on the ISSF website, on the Federation’s Livestream channel and on its official Facebook page.
