ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol · Munich, GER
The experienced shooter of Ukraine won his seventh World Cup gold medal — the second one in the Air Pistol event — ruled the 10m Air Pistol Men final match and raised the World Record bar by 1.3 points. Home favorite Christian Reitz of Germany took silver, while Pu Qifeng of the People’s Republic of China claimed the bronze medal.
After People’s Republic of China’s Yang Haoran set a new World Record in today’s opening event, another record was set in the following match: the men’s 10m Air Pistol.
Ukraine’s experienced shooter Oleh Omelchuk, indeed, moved into the top position at the end of the second 5-shot series, then extending his advantage with a great 10.3-10.8 combination and defending himself from the comeback of Germany’s 31-year-old Christian Reitz.
Despite firing three times inside the 9th ring and once inside the 8th, the 35-year-old Ukrainian shooter maintained his lead until the end of the match, eventually climbing atop the podium with 243.6 points, 1.3 above the previous World Record.
Reitz followed in 2nd place with 242.4 points, adding a second silver medal to the one he won at this year’s ISSF World Cup Stage 1 in Guadalajara (MEX).
The bronze was awarded to People’s Republic of China’s Pu Qifeng (32), who finished in 3rd position and stepped on an ISSF podium four years after winning two bronzes at the World Cup in Beijing (CHN).
At the feet of the podium, the 2017 ISSF Shooter of the Year Matsuda Tomoyuki (42) of Japan placed 4th with 198.7 points, followed by Russian Federation’s Artem Chernousov and Kim Song Guk of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: the Russian 22-year-old took 5th place with 179.4 points, while the North Korean 32-year-old concluded in 6th position with 157.8.
After twelve shots, Jin Jongoh (38) of the Republic of Korea was the first shooter eliminated from the final, finishing in 8th place with 116.3 points. Two shots later, Jin was followed by India’s 22-year-old Om Prakash Mitharval, 7th on the table with 136.9 points.
