“Winning was the plan!” Will Brown of USA said today, after winning the 10m Air Pistol Men Final at the 2013 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Fort Benning, Georgia.
The 21-year old Idaho shooter, who’s now part of the US Olympic team and trains in Colorado Spring, had never participated in an ISSF final round, before.
Today, shooting on his home turf, he made it to the final with a qualification score of 580 points. Then, during the final, he shot 202.1 points, climbing up the scoreboard to the top. After the 20th and last final shot, the young shooter had build up a lead of over two points over the closest follower, Oleh Omelchuk of Ukraine.
“This was my first final, but I won’t stop now. I will participate in the next ISSF World Cup Stage in Munich, and I will try to pass through our internal selections to get a spot in the team competing in Granada, Spain, later this year.” Brown said.
29-year old two-time Olympian Oleh Omelchuk of Ukraine secured the Silver medal with a final score of 199.5 points, while today’s Bronze medal went to Russia’s Denis Koulakov, 30, with 180.6 points.
