– 10M AIR RIFLE, 50M PISTOL AND RAPID FIRE MEDALS

The ISSF Junior Cup continued with the 10m Air Rifle Men and Women Junior finals, and with the 50m Pistol and 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men Junior events.

Germany continues winning, at ISSF Junior Cup in Suhl: Nina Laura Kreutzer (GER) won indeed the 10m Air Rifle Women Junior Event. The 19-year old athlete scored 208.7 points to step upon the podium, and to prevail over Nadine Ungerank from Austria (206.6 points) and Yulia Karimova from Russia (185.9 points). The host country of the first ISSF Junior Cup also placed two more athletes into the final: Jolyn Beer and Selina Gschwandtner, who finished in fifth and sixth place with 143.4 and 122.8 points, respectively.

Such excellent results led team Germany upon the highest step of the teams' podium, with an overall score of 1244.9 points (Selina Gschwandtner, Jolyn Beer and Tina Grünwedel). But that was not enough: also the Silver medal went to Germany, secured by the second team (Nina Laura Kreitzer, Lena Cramer and Patricia Piepjohn) with 1240.5 points. The Russian Federation followed in third, taking home the Bronze medal with 1239.4 points.

The head and head fight to reach the top of the medal standings chart between Germany and Russia continued in the following 10m Air Rifle Junior Men Event. There, it was the young pistol champion Vladimir Maslennikov from Russia who pocketed the gold, winning an extremely tight competition with 207.3 points. Only 0.3 points eventually separated him from the Silver medallist, France's Brian Baudouin. Alexis Raynaud, also from Frence, achieved Bronze medal with 184.9 points.

The 50m Pistol Men Junior final was won by Pavlo Korostylov (Ukraine). The 16-year old athlete turned out to be the best since the morning's qualifications, where he scored 566 points climbing atop of the leaderboard. Then, scoring 198.0 points in the Final, Korostylov defeated Switzerland's Andreas Riedener (196.0 points in the final). Alexander Skakov of the Russian Federation scored 172.7 points in the final to win the Bronze medal, also pushing his team up in the rankings.

At the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men medal match, Jan Quiquampoix from France won against Alexandr Marchev from Russia by 27 to 24 hits. Oscar Miliwek from Poland pocketed the Bronze medal (18 hits).

ISSF JUNIOR CUP IN SUHL CONTINUES

 GERMANY AND RUSSIA: HEAD TO HEAD FOR THE MEDALS

The first ISSF Junior Cup held in Suhl, Germany, from the 26 of May thorough the 1 of June, continued yesterday with four more medal events: 10m Air Pistol Junior Men and Junior Women, the 50m Rifle Prone Junior Men, and the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Junior Women competitions.

The second day of competitions saw a close duel between Germany and the Russian Federation, in Rifle and Pistol events.

The host country, Germany, celebrated a great success in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Junior Women event, by placing 3 athletes atop of the podium, as well as 5 athletes among the top-8, and thus securing the team's Gold medal (1744 points) in front of the Russian Federation (1731 points). It was Selina Gschwandtner who finished upon the highest step of the podium, with an overall score of 458.7 points, after she beat her teammates Nina Laura Kreutzer (Silver medal with 457.8 points) and Yasmin Schulze (Bronze medal with 444.8 points).

The Ukraine and the Russian Federation met at the second competition of the day, the 10m Air Pistol Junior Men event. There, Ukraine's Bohdan Kyrylenko secured the Gold medal with 197.6 points, prevailing on the Russian athlete Aleksei Kuznetcov (195.5 points) and on his teammate Pavlo Korostylov (174.4 points). Thanks to Kyrylenko and Kuznetcov, Ukraine also pocketed the teams' Gold medal, ahead of Russia and Poland.

Among the Junior Women air pistol shooters, the Gold medal went to the Russian athlete Vitalina Batsarashkina, who scored 201.4 points to finish in first with a clear advantage on the Silver medallist, Poland's Agata Nowak, Silver with 194.1 points. Daria Lopatina, also from the Russian Federation, achieved the Bronze medal with 175.5 points, while the home shooter Josefin Eder narrowly missed the podium, finishing in fourth place.

The last medal match of the day, the 50m Rifle Prone Junior Men competition, turned in favor of Germany again. It was indeed the 19-year old German shooter Christoph Kaulich who pocketed the Gold medal, winning a final duel against Slovakia's Ondrej Holko 10.3 to 10.1 points after the two of them had tied with 208.6 points. The Bronze medal went to Australia's Raymond Woodhouse, who marked a final result of 184.5 points. As for the team standings, Czech Republic secured the brightest medal with 1848.9 points, followed by France and Russia on the second and third step of the podium.

FERNANDES FROM SPAIN WON THE LAST GOLD MEDAL

SPAIN'S FERNANDEZ SHOOT-OFF SLOVAKIA'S VARGA AT THE TRAP FINAL TO WIN ALMATY'S LAST WORLD CUP MEDAL

Alberto Fernandez came back atop of an ISSF podium three years after his last victory. On his way to the highest step of the podium, he met and defeat Slovakia's Erik Varga in a shoot-off for Gold.

The 2010 World Champion Alberto Fernandez of Spain, 31, won the Trap Men final, the last competition of the 2014 ISSF Shotgun World Cup stage in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

After passing through the semi-final with a perfect score of 15 out of 15 hits, Fernandez faced Erik Varga of Slovakia in the Gold medal match, witch ended up in a tied as both the finalist score 13 hits.

In the following shoot-off for Gold, Fernandez prevailed by 4 to 3 hits, securing his second ISSF World Cup Gold medal in career.

The 31-year old former European and World Champion had indeed only won a world cup stage, back in 2011, in Sydney.

Today's Bronze medal went to Kuwait's Fehaid Aldeehani, the Olympic Bronze medallist of London 2012 and Sydney 2000. The 48-year old shooter scored 14 targets in the semi-final, and then outdid Italy's Mauro De Filippi in the Bronze medal match by 14 to 11 hits.

London 2012 Olympic Silver medallist Massimo Fabbrizi, today's second Italian finalist, and Russia's 2004 Olympic Champion Alexey Alipov of Russia, closed the match in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with 12 hits after the semi-final.

SLOVAKIA'S STEFECEKOVA WON ALMATY'S TRAP WOMEN FINAL AT THE SUNSET

The 2008 and 2012 Olympic Silver medallist Stefecekova of Slovakia competed in her first world cup stage of the season, and won with ease in spite of the critical light conditions, leaving two Olympic champions behind her.

The two-time Olympic Silver medallist Zuzana Stefecekova, 30, from Slovakia, finished atop of the Trap Women podium at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Almaty, Kazakhstan, today.

Stefecekova did not give many chances to her opponents: she came out of the qualifications in third place, with 72 hits. And when the scores were set back to zero at the beginning of the semi-final, she gave her best, making it to the gold medal match with 13 hits, after winning a three-way shoot-off against Russia's Tatiana Barsuk and Spain's Fatima Galvez.

Zuzana also left behind the two athletes who had beaten her in the last two Olympic editions: the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Champs Satu Makela-Nummela (FIN) and Jessica Rossi (ITA), who closed the semi-final in sixth and fifth places with 10 hits, respectively.

Continuing with the Gold medal match, taking place at the sunset, the Slovakian athlete outdid her Russian opponent Barsuk with a clear score of 14 to 11 hits, pocketing her fifth ISSF world cup gold medal in career.

Stefecekova said: “Today's Gold medal match has been just... crazy! I could not see anything: the sun was down, and the targets looked black. Somehow I managed to hit most of them, don't ask me how I made it.... I have been blessed to win.”

But even if light conditions turned the medal match into a struggle, Stefecekova suffered more during the semi-final, she said. “The semi-final is always critical. If you do something wrong there, you can easily end up in sixth place. Once I made it to the Gold medal match, I knew I was going to walk away with a medal.”

The Slovakian shooter, who had won the last ISSF world cup she contested, in Granada, in 2013, is back in top shape. She did not participate in the first shotgun world cup stage of the year, in Tucson, but now that the season has finally started, it will be difficult to stop her. “I am extremely happy, because this has been the first world cup stage I participated in, this year. And I won it. Now I am looking forward: 2014 is a scheduled season. I have two more world cup stages, then the European and World Championships. I hope that today's won't be my last medal of the year!”

“Everyone wants to earn a quota place at the next World Championship in Spain. I want it too. So, let's wait an see what's going to happen in Granada.”

And there she will most probably meet again Russia's 29-year old Tatiana Barusk, a three-time Junior European Champion who had been far from ISSF podiums for years (she had earned her last world cup medal back in 2008) before coming here in Almaty and winning pocketing today's Silver.

Granada is also the home ground of today's Bronze medallist, Spain's Fatima Galvez, 27, who finished on today's podium by beating France's Carole Cormenier in the Bronze medal match by 12 to 9 hits.

Stefecekova is right: everybody wants to earn an Olympic quota place at the first try. But there will only be 3 quotas to be assigned at the next World Championship, for the Trap Women event.

RANKING DO CONTINENTE AMERICANO DE PISTOLA DE DAMAS

Continuando a formatação do Ranking de Pistola, agora selecionando as melhores atletas Damas dos eventos de Pistola 25m e Pistola de Ar do Continente Americano. A partir do Ranking Mundial da ISSF, logramos a obter a seguinte relação de atletas que pontuaram nos últimos dois anos de acordo com o sistema de pontuação criado  pela ISSF.

Na modalidade de Pistola 25m duas atletas Americanas, Teresa Chambers e Sandra Uptagraft, abrem o Ranking ocupando o 1º e 2º lugar, mas, seguidas de perto pelas Canadenses, Lea Wachowich e Lynda Kiejko. A Brasileira Ana Luiza Souza Lima ficou afastada das competições por mais de um ano  devido a uma gravidez que lhe brindou com uma linda menina,  provavelmente não retorne tão cedo, porém logo que ela tiver condições de voltar a participar, com certeza ela subirá rapidamente no Ranking .

Por outro lado, na modalidade de Pistola de Ar, as Americanas cederam espaço para a Mexicana  Alejandra Savala  que ocupa o 1º lugar com certa folga em relação as demais, seguida pela Americana  Sandra Uptagraft em 2º lugar e a Mexicana  Alice Medina Terraza que ocupa o  3º lugar.

Duas Equatorianas, Diana Durango Flores e Andrea Perez Pena seguem as demais bem de perto, ocupando a 4ª e 5ª posição. A Brasileira, Danile G. Diogenes  voltou a pontuar em Fort Benning onde obteve 5 pontos,  também teve a visita da cegonha o que a  levou a  reduzir a sua atividade esportiva em benefício da atividade materna. Agora, voltando ao tiro, já está adquirindo a sua antiga forma e já mostrou que está decidida a ocupar um lugar de destaque no ranking das Américas.

Já no mês de junho, teremos dua Copas Mundiais importantes, em Minique e Maribor, quando teremos oportunidade de acompanhar o desenvolvimento e reposicionamento das atletas no Ranking Americano.
