FERNANDES FROM SPAIN WON THE LAST GOLD MEDAL



SPAIN'S FERNANDEZ SHOOT-OFF SLOVAKIA'S VARGA AT THE TRAP FINAL TO WIN ALMATY'S LAST WORLD CUP MEDAL

Alberto Fernandez came back atop of an ISSF podium three years after his last victory. On his way to the highest step of the podium, he met and defeat Slovakia's Erik Varga in a shoot-off for Gold.
The 2010 World Champion Alberto Fernandez of Spain, 31, won the Trap Men final, the last competition of the 2014 ISSF Shotgun World Cup stage in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

After passing through the semi-final with a perfect score of 15 out of 15 hits, Fernandez faced Erik Varga of Slovakia in the Gold medal match, witch ended up in a tied as both the finalist score 13 hits.

In the following shoot-off for Gold, Fernandez prevailed by 4 to 3 hits, securing his second ISSF World Cup Gold medal in career.
The 31-year old former European and World Champion had indeed only won a world cup stage, back in 2011, in Sydney.

Today's Bronze medal went to Kuwait's Fehaid Aldeehani, the Olympic Bronze medallist of London 2012 and Sydney 2000. The 48-year old shooter scored 14 targets in the semi-final, and then outdid Italy's Mauro De Filippi in the Bronze medal match by 14 to 11 hits.

London 2012 Olympic Silver medallist Massimo Fabbrizi, today's second Italian finalist, and Russia's 2004 Olympic Champion Alexey Alipov of Russia, closed the match in fifth and sixth place, respectively, with 12 hits after the semi-final.
