After an exhilarating first three days of competition at the 2014 IPC Shooting World Championships in Suhl, Germany, which have been dominated by South Korean athletes, more great action is to come on Tuesday (22 July).
Sweden’s Jonas Jacobsson andSlovakia’s Veronika Vadovicova, gold medallists already in Suhl, are back in action in the R6 (mixed 50m rifle prone SH1), as is Korea’s gold medallist from Monday (21 July) Jinho Park.
Jacobsson, a 17-time Paralympic gold medallist, is the defending champion however but knows he will face stiff competition from London 2012 Paralympic gold medallist Abdulla Sultan Alaryani of the United Arab Emirates, a bronze medal winner already in Suhl.
Also in action is Germany’s Natascha Hiltrop who will be eager to medal on home soil, whilst China’s Cuiping Zhang will start as favourite.
Meanwhile, in the day’s other event, the P3 (mixed 25m Pistol SH1), South Korea’s Heejun Lee will be looking for his second gold medal of the competition.
To secure gold however, he knows he will most probably have to finish ahead of China’s Jainfei Lee, the gold medal winner in this event at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
That day, Lee was pushed close by Russia’s Sergey Malyshev, and his compatriot Valeriy Ponomarenko, who took bronze.
Malyshev has already claimed a silver in Suhl and will be looking to go one step better should he make the final.
Elsewhere, there are two demonstration events taking place, with the visually impaired shooting and the para-shotgun trap on display.
