The ISSF World Cup Final in Shotgun events kicked off today in Nicosia (CYP)

The conclusive competition of the 2015 ISSF season will assign the five seasonal titles in the Shotgun discipline, starting tomorrow with the Skeet Women and the Double Trap Men, and concluding on October 20th with the Trap Men event.
The ISSF World Cup Final in Shotgun events officially opened today at the Olympic Shooting Center in Nicosia (CYP), where it will take place until October 21st and where 58 athletes from 28 countries will compete for the five 2015 ISSF titles in the discipline.

The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber attended the ceremony, addressing a crowd that included Cyprus’ Minister of Defence, Mr. Christoforos Fokaidis. the Deputy Director of the Cyprus Sports Organization, Mr. Demetris Araouzos, the Secretary General of the Cyprus’ Olympic Committee, General Charalambos Lottas, the CEO of OPAP Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Aletraris, on behalf of the sponsors, Demetris Lordos, Chairman of the ISSF Shotgun Committee and President of the Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation, and many other local and international authorities.

“On behalf of the ISSF I offer a warm and friendly welcome to all participants of this ISSF World Cup Final in the Shotgun discipline.” Said Mr. Schreiber, who, during the ceremony, has also been officially and unexpectedly appointed as an honorary member of the Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation from Mr. Lordos.

“The Nicosia Olympic Shooting complex is one of excellent quality, and has proved to be a great location for the ISSF competitions in shotgun.” Continued Mr. Schreiber. “58 athletes from 28 countries is not a very high number of participants, but it is the crème de la crème of the Shotgun discipline. All of them have been specially invited as they are the best athletes of the 2015 season, or the defending champion of the 2014 ISSF World Cup Final. We are confident that they will show us very high performances, with professionalism and love for our shooting sport.” Concluded the ISSF Secretary General.

Mr. Schreiber was then joined on the podium by Mr. Christoforos Fokaidis and Mr. Demetris Lordos, to officially declare the opening of the 2015 ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final.

The first two finals of the competition are expected to take place tomorrow. The Skeet Women event will assign its medal starting at 2:30 PM (UTC+3) and the Double Trap Men at 4:00 PM.
