#RoadToRio: interview with Nasser Al-Attiyah

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be Al-Attiyah’s sixth consecutive Olympic participation since Atlanta 1996.
It’s been 22 years since Nasser Salih Nasser Abdullah Al-Attiyah debuted in the ISSF World Cup in Nicosia (CYP), and the Qatari Skeet Men athlete is still one of the most active shooter on the scene.

Despite never reaching the top of the podium in the yearly ISSF competition, Al-Attiyah is a three-time Gold medallist at the Asian Championship, where in 2012 he also equalled the World Record score of 125 targets, and represented Qatar in six consecutive editions of the Olympic Games.

He debuted in Atlanta in 1996, where he placed 15th in the Skeet Men event, and since then, in the four following editions of the Summer Olympics, Al-Attiyah reached the final phase three times, in 2000, 2004 and at London 2012, where he prevailed over Valeriy Shomin of the Russian Federation in a shoot-off for the Olympic Bronze medal. His most important achievement as a sport shooter.

The 45-year-old from Doha, in fact, is not just an active and successful Skeet Men athlete, he is also, if not mostly, a top-level rally driver, two-time winner of the prestigious Dakar Rally in 2011 and in 2015, with a total of 25 stages won.
The Skeet Men event is scheduled to start on Friday, August 12th, while the semifinals will take place on Saturday , August 13th at 3:00 PM (UTC-3). All the Shooting events will take place at the Olympic Shooting Centre inside the Deodoro Park.
