13th African Championship, Africa YOG Qualification · Cairo, EGY
The process of quota allocation for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games started on April 1st, and it will close on July 31st, 2018. Shooting sport will deliver a total of 54 quotas, four of which have been just awarded in Cairo (EGY).
The 13th edition of the African Championship took place in Cairo (EGY) from April 19th to May 3rd. More than 150 athletes participated in the competition, representing 21 National Olympic Committees and piling up 222 starts.
Along with the continental titles, four Olympic quotas for the upcoming Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games have been awarded during the competition. To be eligible for a YOG quota athletes must be born between January 1st, 2000 and December 31st, 2003.
During the Continental Qualifying Competitions a total of 54 quotas will be distributed, and the four ones allocated in Cairo have been awarded to:
- Adriaan DE BEER (RSA), 10m Air Rifle Men
- Abdullah ABDELMONEM (EGY), 10m Air Pistol Men
- Farida DARWISH (EGY), 10m Air Rifle Women
- Doua CHALGHOUM (TUN), 10m Air Pistol Women
The 50 remaining ones will be distributed during the following competitions: 12 at the European Championship in Baku (AZE) in July 2017; 12 at the European Championship in Budapest (HUN) in February 2018; 4 at the Oceania YOG Qualifying Competition in Gold Coast (AUS) in October 2017; 14 at the Asian Championship in Wako City (JPN) in December 2017; 8 at the ISSF World Cup in Fort Benning (USA) in May 2018.
Two more quotas are guaranteed for the Host Country, while 24 will be distributed as Universality Places, bringing the total of YOG quotas to 80.
The third edition of the Youth Olympic Games will take place in Buenos Aires (ARG) from the 6th to the 18th of October 2018. The qualification period for the Games started on April 1st, 2017 and it will close on July 31st, 2018.
