Finals 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men
ISSF World Cup Final Rifle / Pistol · Munich, GER
The 19-year old French shooter won the match at the last series, setting a new junior world record of 32 hits and leaving Russia's Ekimov in second place.
France's 19-year old shooter Jean Quiquampoix claimed the 2015 ISSF World Cup title, as he won today's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men final at the ISSF World Cup Final in Munich (GER).
The young athlete scored 32 hits, leaving Russia's two-time Olympian and world record holder Leonid Ekimov (27) in second place with 31 hits.
The reigning world champion, 24-year old Kim Jun Hong (KOR), took the Bronze with 27 hits, finishing ahead of Russia's Alexei Klimov (40), fourth with 22 hits. Germany's world rank leader Oliver Geis (24) finished in fifth with 17 hits, while India's Gurpreet Singh (27) took sixth place with 11 hits.
Quiquampoix also established a new Junior final world record, today (junior records are recorded also in senior finals), shuttering the 31 hits record he had established at this year's European Championship in Maribor (SLO).
The French finalist started-off the match with three perfect series of 5 hits out 5 targets, taking the lead of the round. He ranked atop of the leaderboard right to the second last series, when he only hit 1 target out 5, sliding down in second behind Ekimov.
Hitting 4 targets to Ekimov's 2 in the last series, Quiquampoix managed to climb back in first place, pocketing his first senior title after winning the 2014 Junior Wolrd Champion and the 2012 and 2015 Junior European Champion titles.
“I am extremely happy because it's a very nice way to close my last junior season,” Quiquampoix said.
“At the beginning of today's match, it seemed to be easy. But as we went on shooting I could feel the pressure building up.”
“I want to dedicate this medal to my girlfriend Kristel, and to my mother, she's having her birthday in one week and this is a nice present for her,” he added.
“What's my next goal? I want to win the Olympic Games.” Concluded Quiquampoix, who secured an Olympic quota at this year's ISSF World Cup stage in Changwon (KOR).
The ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Final in Munich will continue tomorrow with four medal events, the women's and men's 10m Air Pistol and Air Rifle finals, starting from 10:30 (GMT+2). All final matches will be broadcasted live on www.issf-sports.org
