The 32-year old shooter ranked 11th in the world claimed the brightest medal beating Turkey’s Keles, propelling his country up to the second place of the overall medal standings of the ISSF World Cup in Munich.
Day-4 of the ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Munich, Germany, continued with the men’s 10m Air Pistol Final, won by Ukraine’s two-time Olympian Oleh Omelchuk, 32.
The 2014 European champion finished atop of the scoreboard with 201.9 points, and 8 tenth of advantage on Ismail Keles of Turkey, 28, who secured Silver with 201.1 points.
Keles - ranked 27th in the world - had won only one world cup medal before, a silver, at the 2012 ISSF World Cup in Milan, Italy.
Hoang Xuan Vinh of Vietnam, 41, joined them on the podium by pocketing today’s Bronze with 179.8 points, claiming his second medal of the season, after Bangkok’s bronze.
The 2006 Junior World Champion Pu Qifeng, 30, of the People’s Republic of China, followed the medalists closing the match in fourth place with 159.3 points, besting the 2014 Junior World Champion Alexander Kindig of Germany, 21, who placed in fifth with 139.4 points.
Two of the top-ranked pistol shooters of the world finished in sixth and seventh place. Beijing 2008 Olympic Champion Pang Wei, 29, of the People’s Republic of China, scored 119.2 points, placing ahead of 3-time Olympic champion Jin Jongoh, 36, seventh with 97.3 points. Sweden’s first-time finalist Oscar Nilsson, 21, took the eighth and last place in the final with 76.8 points.
As Day-4 of the ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Munich comes to an end, the People’s Republic of China solidly leads the medal standings with 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze. Omelchuk’s Gold lifted the Ukraine up in second place, with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, while Croatia, Denmark, Spain and Serbia follow in third place with 1 Gold medal each.
The World Cup stage will be closed tomorrow, with the last two matches - the women’s 10m Air Pistol and the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions finals - scheduled at 12.15 and 13.30 (GMT+1), respectively. All finals will be live on www.issf-sports.org
