YOG Champion Korostylov nails last-shot victory in Suhl

Final 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men Junior

ISSF Junior World Championship Rifle / Pistol · Suhl, GER
The Ukrainian athlete won the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Junior Men final, confirming to be one of the most promising up-and-coming pistol shooters of the world.
2014 Youth Olympic Games champion Pavlo Korostylov of Ukraine won today’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Junior event at the 2017 ISSF Junior World Championship in Suhl, Germany.

The 19-year old shooter from Lviv (UKR) secured the brightest medal at the last series, as he scored 3 hits to People’s Republic of Korea’s Jang Ji Won’ 2 hits.

The Ukrainian athlete scored a total of 26 hits to Jang Ji Won’s 25, after the two athletes shot neck and neck throughout the last three series of the final.

Bronze medal went to People’s Republic of China Cheng Zhipeng, 18, who made his debut in an international competition here in Suhl scoring 22 hits. His teammate Zhang Jueming, also competing in his first international event, took the 4th place with 18 hits.

An excellent air pistol shooter, Korostylov is not new to the podium. The two-time junior European Champion had finished in the spotlight at the ISSF Word Cup in Munich, last May, by winning the men’s 10m Air Pistol final in the seniors’ class.

20-year old Jang Ji Won, today’s silver medalist, had only competed in one ISSF event before - the 2014 ISSF World Championship in Granada - where he won Bronze in the 25m Pistol Men Junior event and placed in 4th at the Rapid Fire Pistol Junior final.

Korostylov’s teammate Maksym Horodynets, 18, was the first to leave the competition at the first elimination, placing in 6th with 9 hits, while Czech Republic’s 17-year old Matej Rampula hit 15 targets to finish in 5th.

The 2017 ISSF Junior World Championship in Rifle and Pistol events will continue today with the 10m Air Rifle Men Junior final, scheduled at 16.45 CET. Watch the match live and find the results of all events at www.issf-sports.org
